| Great Wind for Four Races - finally! |
|
After what seems to be a summer of light air, the Optis had great, consistent moderate breeze to allow four races in botht he RWB and Green race courses. 69 championship sailors and 24 Green fleeters registered for the ILYA Optimist iracing. RC Candace Porter, Leslie Barkow. Kathy Will and Wendy Mikacich were duly impressed with the progress of the fleet as the day wore on. Eight lakes are represented on the water. A whole slew of boys with the smallest, fastest girls ever. What fun to watch the fleet sail as a group in the afternoon's last race compared to the morning's fleet which was more strung out as stragglers learned how to handle the puffy wind. Congrats to Hallie Mikacich who tipped over to reveal the largest clump of weeds seen all day attached to her centerboard. No official results were sent to Scowlines but Will Davies leads the pack on day one's end.
Decked out in blue to match the North Sails emblem, Jacquelyn Komas competed on the Green Fleet.Komas attends Lake Beulah Sailing School but will graduate to South Shore's 420 program.
Minnetonka's Nathan Olmstead sailed well through out the Green day. He was accompanied by fellow sailor Riley Brackin and coach Adam Al-Khazindar who was surprised by a visit from aunt Katie Pilley Lovell, US Sailing matchracing perennial competitor.
Red, White, Blue Course
Consistency by Trevor Trepton and Johnny Ferguson place them atop the leader board but the surprise is Alex Keck with a 25-2-1-3. What a great day for this sailor who broke solidly into the group of elite sailors here.Trepton won two of the races. Ferguson took race three. Wait for final results tonight. PRO Mark Prange returns with his crew today for two more races.
Trevor Trepton leads the pack after Day One.
Minnetonka's Johnny Ferguson had a great day with Race three win.
Alex Keck takes the lead and holds for his first Inland race win. That means a party on Beulah
