Race Officer Training Course - Deadline Today
This is for YOU!!!
Breaking News!!! Cody Zeigler's birthday is April 1 and he's coming to the course. How about you?

If you want to learn more about race committee work, want to begin serving on your home lake, want to feel more confident at regattas, please plan to attend the April 1 RC course at Lake Beulah. While this is a certification course, you do not have to take the after-course test. You can just come to listen and learn. There is no on-the-water work which is unfortunate but it is WARM inside Lake Beulah YC. You will not have to learn about the intricacies of a GPS. You will learn what a course should look like - how many boat lengths on a starting line, how far apart should those windward marks be, when to change marks and with what speed to get them set.

John Strassman is a sailor's race official. He understands what you need and how best to achieve it. He listens to sailors. He knows the best practices but understands human mistakes and the vagaries of the wind's challenges.

The course is mostly lecture but there is plenty of time to ask a question. The course is packed with information on all aspects of the administration of a race. In plain English, it is just fun to hear it all explained from one of the nation's best. We in the Midwest are fortunate to have John to teach us. He works enough with scows to speak our language; he works Miami enough to know our most elite sailors. It is a pleasure to spend the day with him.

There is nothing holding you back. No embarrassing questions or situations. The course is administered by US Sailing. All registrations go through them. There are 18 slots open. Lunch will be served - it's the Lake Beulah favorite, Gan's Judges Pasta. That is for Gan Haeger who led us all for many years.

Click here for registration. Registration is $60 which includes lunch and course materials.

Petey Crawford Catches up with Roble/Shea
Now this is embarrassing but it shows how all sailors have to learn new skills when a change of boat is in effect. Petey was in Miami and just happened to watch as Steph made a big mistake. OOPS! No tiller! But she balanced the boat anyway. Watch and laugh.
Watch and laugh but can any of us do that? The boat is on its way now to California for bigger breeze and more training.

Erik Bowers in Europe at Princess Sofia Cup.
Results here. Five days of two races a day. Gold and silver fleets determined after two days of racing. Medal race on Sat.

UBS Friday Night at the Championships
Features Families

Sail it On
The focus on the 2017 ILYA Championships will be families. The ILYA is fortunate to be the home to many, many families who have sailed together, who have made the ILYA an important organization in their family life or, simply, have served the ILYA with distinction or brought distinction to the ILYA.

Approximately twenty families have been preliminarily identified as significant contributors in our history, in our leadership, in our many classes. This list of families is not exclusive. The selection committee is now working to assure a balance of representation. Our initial guidelines have been more than two years of generations and active current involvement with or service to the ILYA.

David Perrigo and UBS arehonored to celebrate our families. Video presentations will run the entire event for your enjoyment. Select interviews will be conducted for highlighting that evening. Morning and afternoon new shows will feature families. It will be a time to cherish your friends who have been a part of this organization in a longtime relationship.

If you would like to make a suggestion to the selection committee, please contact Candace Porter, James Smith, Tom Hodgson or David Perrigo.

The ILYA is pleased to have honored our Heroes and Legends, our Volunteers and now our Families.
