John Ruf returns to the water for the first serious regatta since the last Olympic Trials. With boat out of the barn, Ruf returns to the water on Thursday for practice and racing on Friday. Ruf appears with John Porter above as they arrived to setup the boat. JP has assisted with Sonar and 2.4R setup for disabled sailors in past Olympic campaigns. The latest press release centered around Ruf's return. But John is not the only local connection. Sarah Everhart, originally from Delavan, now listed as Rhode Island will appear on the doublehanded course.
This event was originally to feature single 2.4Rs, doublehanded Ideal 18s and triplehanded Sonars. Low numbers resulted in a cancellation of the Sonars. This event falls on the close of an international disabled event which has impacted participation here in Milwaukee. There are six singlehanded competitors and five doublehanded teams.
Travel down to Lake Michigan for a great day of viewing to cheer on Sarah and John, Friday through Sunday.
