C Blue Chip - It's Keck and Porter
Tight racing leads to N181 Victory
What an event! With 30 equally skilled C sailors and one Finn sailor as the Mystery Guest, it was consistency that landed the title for Peter Keck and Ben Porter. The winds were variable, temperatures COLD but the FUN abundant as the sailors laughed at their top ten finishes followed by a bottom ten finish. The shifts were plentiful testing the patience of RC members Larry Krause, Mark Prange and Chip Mann assisted by Tim Kay, Tom Wilfert, Candace Porter, John Baumann, Marilyn Krause and Andrew Amato.

The four race event enjoyed the artistic homelake talent of Doc Henschel who again created a watercolor for the awards.

From Alex Kay

Congratulations to Peter Keck and Ben Porter (N-181) on winning the 55th C Scow Blue Chip Championship Regatta.  Peter and Ben sailed an excellent regatta, winning two of the four races, and took home the coveted hand-painted portrait by Dr. Bob Henschel.

Friday night sailors shared stories and enjoyed the famous Cedar Lake pork chop dinner as they launched their boats.  Saturday morning brought cold north winds at 5-10 mph and two races were completed. Peter Keck and Scott Tarmann (E-55) won each race, respectively.  No races were sailed Saturday afternoon due to lack of wind.  Sailors had quite a spectacular dinner Saturday night as they enjoyed delicious NY Strip Steaks.  Mystery guest Darrell Peck, five-time Finn North American champion, spoke to the fleet about changes to the International sailing scene.  Sailors then danced the night away to a live band.

Two races were completed Sunday morning with southwest winds at 8-15 mph.  Races were won by Peter Keck and Frank Davenport (B-303).  Thanks to Larry Krause and race committee for the excellent courses.  In addition to the action on the water, Connor Trepton (00-5) marked the 300th Blue Chip competitor since the inception of the regatta in 1960.

Fall Lineup
Nan Norris Beulah Challenge - Sept 21-22
This event began about ten years ago as a way to encourage new sailors to the fleet - both youth and crew who are would-be skippers. It has grown into a wide-variety of sailors. The original mission has been maintained but also it has become a welcoming mat for our friends from Lake Davenport and Lake Springfield as they have traveled up north each year. This year, Beulah sadly but proudly has renamed the event after one of our most ardent and active members who passed away the day before Inlands in fitting fashion. Nan Norris spent her last summer watching the Beulah boats she loved and served. So. . . in her honor a new name, a few new traditions (Sunday Pancake Breakfast and Saturday Mexican and hats). Don't miss this one. Beulah travels en masse to your events sometimes bringing 15-17 boats. It's time to come to us! Click here for online registration.  We are a lot of talent but OH SO MUCH FUN! Why do you think we travel together?
