Barkow Wins Bronze at Buddy Melges Matchracing Event
Eighteen women from the international scene descended upon Sheboygan, Wisconsin for the year's premier ISAF Level 1 matchracing event. The Inland had three women competing at this prestigious event. Maggie Shea of White Lake, MI skipped the boat with Stephanie Roble (Beulah) as crew on the 15th place boat of 18 competitors. This young team was collegiate sailors privileged to receive the invitation to compete with the international teams. Sally Barkow (Pine) not only competed by finished third beating two other US frontrunners Anna Tunnicliffe and Ginny Tulloch. Barkow competed in the finals with Australian, New Zealand and Dutch competitors. For more info, check the Sheboygan Matchracing Center. And pay them a physical visit - a beautiful city with magnificent Lake Michigan access.
Beulah C Challenge -  September 25-26
Time to think about Beulah again. This C event was formed to promote C sailing. Many skippers crew at this event. Housing for as many as possible; good food, great bar and new faces always. For more info click here.
If you have a fall event you want published, please send your info to Scowlines.
Olympic hopefuls
It's time for our top sailors to look to England. It's nearing the Olympic Trials time and many are jumping on the trail. A few changes in the boats; a few changes in the qualifying procedure but new entries join our last two Olympians. The ILYA is prepared also. The ILYA Foundation has formalized its guidelines in preparation for donations from our hopefuls. You may designate funds for an individual campaign or to the general fund. Both Sally Barkow and John Ruf have filed paperwork to utilize the Foundation for individual campaigns in 2012.
So who's in? Sally and John are actively competing. John Ruf is in Amsterdam now competing in the 2.4R class. Sally has been traveling all summer in the new Women's Matchracing events. Kevin Jewett has purchased a boat along with Mike Kuschner and will begin serious practice and competition this fall. Collegiate sailors Ann Haeger in the 470 and Steph Roble and Maggie Shea in matchracing all are working hard to be poised for the future but are hoping to make the qualifying events in 2012.
Watch the news and fundraising opportunities. It's a chance to get the Inland on the map with our fine sailors.
