If you want to see our youth sailors in action, travel to next weekend's HS event. This weekend our MN and WI sailors along with Chicago schools competed in the Great Oaks West qualifier. Meanwhile Maxinkuckee hosted the eastern qualifier. We have sailors at the top in both events.  Results can be found on the MISSA Website although not posted at the time of Scowlines' deadline. The Great Oaks event is a qualifying event held annually  in New Orleans in November. It is for those schools not qualifying for the National championship Mallory and Baker events. Congrats to our A and B sailors who sailed well this weekend. Qualifying from the western qualifier are the team from White Bear Lake HS - Eddie Cox/Natasha Shaalund and Mahtomedi HS - Will Crary/Peter Brady. The B division was topped by Dan Groskopf and Sam Petelinsek.

Last weekend was the Jimmy Talbot event. Results are posted along with photos. Last week's event was 420s, Lasers and Laser Radials.

We have sailors qualifying for HS nationals in the singlehanded Cressy Championship. The doublehanded nationals are held in the Spring as are the college champs. This year both the HS and College Singlehended Champs will be in Chicago. Thus far we have sailors qualifying for both the HS and College Nationals.

ILYA Meetings

ILYA logoYouth Development - Seventeen participants

met for two hours to discuss new 420 opportunites for our youth, the return of the ILYA singlehanded champs, the possibility of a revival of SHEETS in the southern region featuring 420s, coaching guidelines for use on the race course and youth promotional ideas to transition our youth to scows. Look for an announcement for participation in another meeting prior to the Winter Inland to organize our summer for all our clubs and youth fleets.

ILYA Board Meeting - Sunday

All are welcome to the Fall ILYA Board meeting. Fleet reps, directors, and officers plan to meet Sunday, October 16th in Hudson, WI. Please contact Jim Smith if you plan to attend so he can make lunch arrangements.

  Oktoberfest - Nagawicka

Lasers - all kinds, Vanguard 15s. Youth rates so low, it's a giveaway. Nagawicka Lake Yacht Club is hosting the Annual Octoberfest Vanguard 15 and Laser Regatta on October 15 and 16. This has been a great event at Nagawicka.  We often get visitors from Chicago and all over Wisconsin.   This would be a prefect opportunity for anyone in the Inland to do some frost biting.  Also, there is a discount for full time students so for juniors this is an extremely affordable event.
