The Olympics Trials begin this week. Sailors have gathered in Newport for pre-event training. John Ruf will compete October 3-14 in the 2.4m class. Watch the US Sailing website for results, schedule, pics and participants' list. Sally Barkow appears in the running photos in two of the segments of the website.

John Ruf is also featured in local coverage here. John and Sally Barkow use the ILYA Foundation as a charitable depository for fundraising. Your contribution to the ILYA Foundation is always welcome.

Four young sailors will compete in the laser classes: Annie Kate Haeger, Chloe Palmer and Lindsay Allen have a field of 22 sailors in the radial class; Erik Bowers and Josh Garber have a field of 32 Lasers to top. Susie Pegel and Steph Roble declined invitations for the Laser Radial fleet.

New this year will be a Saturday night social, informative gathering. Please reserve Saturday night 7:00 to bar closing to give your opinion and enjoy all your sailing friends. Olympic Trials Begin
The East Coast Trials get our attention as John Ruf, Annie Kate Haeger, Lindsay Allen, Chloe Palmer, Erik Bowers and Josh Garber compete for the chance to represent the US. The weekend saw four races in the Laser Radial and Laser classes. Click here for results. Ruf led on Saturday night but Sunday's results omitted race #2 which Ruf won with no explanation on the website.

The remainder of fleets are located on the West Coast with the exception of the Yngling fleet. Barkow and Team 7 will be kept in limbo until the OCR regatta in January. There are only two competitors left for the US berth, Barkow and Betsy Allison. The selection will be made based on regatta performance from the World's and OCR. No trials will be held for the Yngling class.
C fleet shows how to do it!
Fall Regattas Boast High Numbers

It was only two years ago when participation was so low, two lakes were considering discontinuing the fall events. But forget those days. Chris Andert and his C fleet committee have turned this around. The past three weekends, 30+ boats have gathered at Beulah, Davenport and Delavan. The end of season Road Warrior awards have generated a final burst of activity. Winners will be announced in this week's C World or the next edition of Scowlines. Congratulations to the C fleet committee, the ILYA member of the Year recipients, for promoting the fleet into phenomenal fall success.
I-20 Nationals
