The Olympic race is on!

We're off and running. The ILYA Foundation has three registered Olympic hopefuls. John Ruf, bronze medalist in 2008 has been practicing up through the big wind storm last week. Sally Barkow has been traveling in the US and overseas forming a team for the new women's matchracing format. She has been named to the Alphagraphics US Sailing Team based on her top American finish at a Grade 1 event.

New to the Olympic scene is a 49er campaign centered from Lake Geneva. Kevin Jewett and Mike Kuschner began with the purchase of a boat in August competing in their first regatta at CORK. They can be seen on the waters of Geneva nearly every day. This team begins fundraising next week at the popular Gordy's restaurant. This team does not have the advantage of funds left from a prior campaign. Please consider giving the JK sailing team a jumpstart. All Olympic hopefuls will say fundraising is the toughest component of surviving a campaign.

Providing the funds early from loyal supporters allows our teams to concentrate on sailing. Please accept this kickoff  invitation for November 12th for the Jewett campaign. RSVP ASAP for Gordy's planning.

Take time to nominate your favorite family - Deadline November 15

Scuttlebutt is also honoring sailors.

Scuttlebutt is launching the SAILING FAMILY OF THE YEAR award. The rules on who qualifies are loose. Your family may participate together or separately. Your family might be into competing, cruising, or supporting the sport in some capacity. Maybe not all of your family is into sailing, but some are. If you are part of a family, and you have family members that participate in the sport, than you are a qualified entrant for the SFOTY award.

The winning family will be outfitted in team gear courtesy of Atlantis WeatherGear and Camet International, along with receiving international recognition and commemorative trophies. Entry deadline is November 15, 2010. Enter here: http://www.sailingscuttlebutt.com/news/10/SFOTY/
