Lamphere and Kiss - Two Midwest Sailors!!! - Win High School Cressy (Singlehanded Nationals)

Malcolm Lamphere (Geneva), shown above, topped the Laser Radial and Mitchell Kiss (Macatawa Bay) won the Full Rig Lasers in the end of season national championship. Eighteen sailors in each division qualified to attend the event in boats supplied by Laser. These two have competed and trained together and represented the US in international regattas. Full results. Jack Bitney from Minnetonka and Will Holz from New Trier HS also competed for the Midwest.

In other HS news, many of our sailors attended the Great Oaks event in New Orleans last weekend. As is the custom in high school sailing, individual sailors' names are not listed so ask your favorite sailor if they attended and hear their story of a club - Southern YC - who has rebuilt after a hurricane. The Optis will travel there over Thanksgiving for the Midwinters. Southern hosts them all with a bountiful Thanksgiving meal prior to the event starting on Friday.

Anne Haeger Trains for 2016 Olympics

Team Haeger/Provancha started training in Miami this fall with US

Sailing coach Romain Bonnaud. The team has made marked strides in

their boat handling and are eager to test their knowledge with some of the world's best in January during the Miami Olympic Class Regatta.

Along with the on the water practice, the team has spent many hours on boat repair/maintenance and continue to gain knowledge of all things

470 on and off the water. The spring outlook for Team HP involves plentiful travel to Europe to countries including Spain, France, the Netherlands, and Italy. For more information on Team HP 470's progress and to check our updated schedule, visit our website at teamhp470.com.

C fleet decision spurs growth

In a cooperative spirit, key leaders of the C fleet and Melges BoatWorks met this fall to spur the growth of new boats in the fleet. The result? A newly designed C with the same one design consistency that has ensured the fleet's success but with some comfort and building efficiencies to spur excitement. A reported 12 are on order. It is rumored six will go to Beulah to make its fleet number 30. The new owners have assured Beulah's growth by selling onlake to younger sailors.

Melges is showing the new C on Lake Geneva. Note the Raptor Foam Non-Skid Kit custom made for extreme comfort to the boat and excellent traction.  This will be available as a kit for older boats and is standard in all new boats. In addition the C class national organization has spearheaded the manufacturing of a new mast die to alleviate the mast scarity problem caused when the current die was inadvertantly destroyed by an eastern mast extrusion company.

Here is an example of a fleet's leadership, collaborative initiatives with its suppliers and a sure formula for longevity of the class.

Save the Date
 February 9th
Many of you have been asking about the Winter Inland date. Save Saturday, February 9th at Chenequa Country Club. Fleet Meetings will run all day along with the Annual Delegates Meeting.
Scows to be featured at US Sailing One Design Event
US Sailing Invites us to promote our fleets -

In January a group of Inland sailors will travel to Ohio for the US Sailing One Design Symposium. One of the many presentations will be the Success of Scows. Your editor will assist with compiling the information to be presented. A visual presentation will run in the background during the presentation. We need great, short video of our magnificent boats in action or breathtaking photos from all our classes. The theme of the presentation will be family - our strong family of sailors, our sleek, well-built family of scows and our strong family of clubs who support scow sailing. If you have information to add - especially the Western Michigan area and MC scow country in the SE of the country, send all info to the editor, candaceporter@wi.rr.com.

In particular, if you have short bios on our most talented, decorated sailors we will feature those sailors who have enriched our scow history on the water.

Consider joining us in Ohio. There is always information that includes fleet-building, RC and rules presentations. This is a who's who of fleet leaders from around the nation.
