INLAND LAKE YACHTING ASSOCIATION THANKS BILGE PULLERS

Money at AIn 2008 the Bilge Pullers graciously allocated $1800 to be used to upgrade ILYA office equipment, specifically the purchase of a new office computer. Early in 2009 Executive Secretary Smith found like-new equipment that would satisfy current needs and which cost only $600. According to Smith, the new(er) I-Mac Computer is a 'gazillion times faster' than the replaced 2002 model he had been using. He says his fists are no longer pounding the desk waiting for programs to open. In addition, the 20 inch screen is a great improvement.

The Bilge Pullers has been most generous to the ILYA over the years, providing support to the office and race committee.

BILGE PULLERS MEETING FRIDAY NIGHT
Admiral Ruf reminds you to attend one of the two Spring banquets. The Southern will be at the Pewaukee Yacht Club on 8 May 2009 at 6:00 PM and the Northern Banquet will be at Lord Fletchers on 15 May 2009. Contact John Ruf at whitebuffalo@mac.com.

Ackley
Bilge Pullers Honor Race Committee work of Russ Ackley
The annual presentation of the Bilge Puller Cannon went to Pewaukee's Russ Ackley. Ackley served twelve (count them!) times in our short sailing season in '08. He saw many of our fleets: X, C, E, MC, A. Lasers and 420s. He seems to do it all! Watch for Russ on his home lake of Pewaukee or at one of our ILYA regattas.

Lawsuit Settled
Bradley Robinson filed suit against the ILYA on March 25, 2008.  The ILYA Executive and Legal committees have been working on this matter and taken many steps leading up to a potential trial.  On March 26, one year and one day after the filing, both sides met in a pre-trial mediation session and agreed to an out-of-court settlement. The ILYA insurance carrier approached this settlement as a business risk evaluation, without the emotion that was brought by the two interested parties. The ILYA admitted no fault, and the insurance carrier alone made a cash payment to Mr. Robinson.  The terms of the settlement were approved by the ILYA's Executive Committee.

The ILYA looks forward now to using all our resources for the purposes of the ILYA:  promoting, fostering, encouraging and developing amateur yacht racing.

Does your club have insurance?
gowrie
A junior sailor from your club's team is hurt in a regatta at another club.
What does that mean for you?

Join the more than 50% of yacht clubs in the US that have chosen The Burgee Program so they can confidently run regattas, borrow boats, teach sailing, hold social events, weather storms - and keep their club, board members, flag officers, volunteers and employees well-protected.

I-20 AND M-16 SAILORS
 I-20 ILYA Invitational - M-16 ILYA Championship
June 20th-21st

The late entry deadline is approaching for your regatta at Cedar Wisconsin. The ILYA has offered a couple of wayS to sail at a reduced or no entry fee. If you have never sailed in an ILYA event your entry fee is free. For your Championship regatta if you are under 25 you only have to pay 50% of the regular entry fee. So, the M-16's can take advantage of both of these programs and the I-20's can participate in the under 25 program. To take advantage of either of these programs you need to register before the late entry fee deadline of June 4th.

Cedar is also offering limited housing to sailors who register early. It is available on a first come first served basis. We also allow camping on our grounds. All boats will be dry sailed at this event. No buoy's or taxi's.

For the M-16's this is a great chance to come back to one of the original M-16 lakes and for the I-20's it is a great opportunity to sail on a new venue and introduce your fleet to a new lake.

Come for a great time on a great lake.
