College Nationals has begun!!
ILYA Women Sailors Start Finals Today
After Tuesday and Wednesday semifinals, the top 18 teams in the nation begin finals today. The Midwest will be represented by the Honey Badgers but it doesn't stop there. Grace Lucas sails for College of Charleston who may be a top contender. Addy Ferguson of Fordham won a race but her team will not proceed today to the Finals. Minnesota's Emily Oltrogge led her team as A skipper. Her team and others will wait out the Finals to participate in the later two sessions of Team Racing and Co-eds. Each team had to qualify for each of the three disciplines held sequentially at the Annapolis site. The Badger B skipper Leslie Poole hails from Delavan but will lead a re-invigorated program on Mendota this year. ---- Look for more names of our sailors in the next week.
Wisco was all smiles as they garnered the last qualifying spot in the Eastern Semifinal in a tight, tight race to the finish.

Follow the scores for all three events here. Look for MANY, MANY more names of our sailors. Be sure and click both A and B results for Women's finals and the co-eds.

Geneva, you are next door. Click here to register for a great social package and there is sailing also.
High School Season is Over - What a Ride it Was.
Record Numbers
The end has come to a season of sailors from nearly every club in the ILYA. The Midwest is exploding with HS sailing. Yearend saw Lake Forest HS win the NIT and Loyola compete in Team Racing Nationals to a 9th place finish. Wisconsin and Minnesota Championships - it was a hectic end of season. Gear up for next season by sailing hard in our scows, X's and 420's this summer.

Register for Sail Strong, Sail Pink

We all get busy and it's the wild end of school year time. But. . .  we need our numbers as we begin arranging for flights for our instructors.

We need at least 6 more Opti sailors.

Annie Kate Haeger - the top US Olympic hopeful will be teaching only two X boats. Can you imagine that level of instruction? So sign  up your daughter and her crew.

We have six adult MC sailors awaiting your older daughter or YOU to teach in provided MCs. It's 1:1 instruction all the time you are on the water.

It takes a real man to sail a C!   Nah ----- come and learn the rigging tips or best use of a crew to enable you to love this boat. It is the most fun fleet. Again 1:1 sailing during the entire clinic. Do you want to learn? Come on over to Beulah.

Moms - this day is yours to learn. Trailer backing, spectator boat driving/observing, race committee work at its most basic.

The Thursday evening banquet is included with the registration or can be attended as a standalone event.

Click here to register. Please register this week as we are ordering the signature pink tech shirts.

There are new RC volunteers in the ILYA. Are you one?
Do you want to learn RC tactics ON THE WATER? Have you wondered what the GPS does for you? Did you take the classroom course and now want to apply the info? Or are you just interested in how to get involved? READ MORE!
Many volunteers attended the recent US Sailing Club Officer courses. Coincidentally, this Winter Inland your fleet reps recognized the need to be proactive in establishing a training pipeline to re-invigorate our ILYA RC, adding enthusiastic youthfulness to our finely-aged (like a wine) RC members. The ILYA is incredibly privileged to boast so many hightly-trained and extremely proficient race officers. The challenge facing us is to take all the knowledge gained from years and years of experience and begin transferring those skills to those who would like to be the next generation of RC.
The US Sailing course disseminates head knowledge but the intricacies of execution under pressure, setting a course with a GPS, knowing when to change --- all can be learned under the Midwest's best. Lake Beulah is hosting the Quad Lakes X Invitational and offers this event as a RC trainer on the water. ILYA experienced RC will be on hand to take you through the roles of the four-boat system. PRO Larry Krause will lead us. He will bring his experienced southern WI experts along with him. So if you are interested in learning the ropes on any of our boats 1 thru 4, contact candaceporter@wi.rr.com to be considered. We will take those who passed the US Sailing course first.
420 ILYA Champs - White Bear Lake

Welcome 420 sailors,

The White Bear Yacht Club would like to invite all 420 sailors to the 420 Inland Championships held on White Bear Lake on June 27-29. White Bear is one of the oldest yacht clubs in the inland association, and we are excited to have one of the newest classes sailing on our lake.

Registration begins on the 27th of June with practice starts and racing in the afternoon (check the N.O.R for scheduled times).  Friday evening will be an anniversary party for White Bear's 125th birthday. It will be held at the yacht club pool.  All sailors and parents are welcome! The N.O.R will have dinner pricings, food packages, and the estimated time.

We will race on Saturday and Sunday, and have a small awards ceremony to follow the regattas end. A minimal amount of charter boats are available. We hope to see you all at White Bear in June! If you have any questions refer to the N.O.R posted on the I.L.Y.A website, or email Ed Cox at

See you on the water,

Ed Cox

Wisconsin MC Championships
Be Part of the New Tradition -

Be part of the newest regional MC Championship regatta. All MC sailors whose home lake is in Wisconsin are invited. Cedar Lake will be hosting this inaugural event on June 28th and 29th. This will be a five-race regatta over two days. On Cedar the race courses are always close to the club. This will be a great next step to those sailors who are not used to traveling. We promise to make it easy and fun. You are welcome to dry-sail your boat. We will have plenty of help to get you launched in the morning and back out after racing. Since there are no X regattas we will have a generous list of available crews.

Larry Krause will be our PRO with an ILYA all-star crew to insure the best race courses. Socially we will have free Capitol Beer throughout the event. Friday evening registration with munchies - Restaurant recommendations for dinner will be offered. Join your MC friends or meet new ones on Friday night in West Bend. Saturday morning registration is expected so come early - Three races during the day - After racing cocktail and appetizer party. Sunday two back to back races followed by lunch and trophies. One fee includes everything.

Trophies to top five - top two masters - top grandmaster - top youth

Since this is a first year event please ask your home club for average points or extra throw-outs to make your attendance easy.
