Peter Barrett Inducted into Sports Hall of Fame
Peter Barrett Reservation Deadline May 29

Peter Barrett, longtime ILYA skipper in C's, E's and A Scows will be inducted into the Madison Sports Hall of Fame on Tuesday, June 5 at the Monona Terrace Community and Convention Center in Madison. Peter grew up racing C boats on Mendota and raced Techs at the UW. He was a member of Pewaukee YC for many years. Peter's sailing career spans more than three decades during which he mentored some of the ILYA's best sailors. In addition to national and international championships in Finns, Stars, A Scows and many other boats, Peter is one of three ILYA sailors to Medal in the Olympic Games. Buddy Melges and Bill Benston are the others.

Come to Madison and share this special moment in sailing with Peter's friends and family.

You'll find reservation information for the event and an article about Peter and his ILYA connections at
Clinic on Time-Based Racing by Terry Bischoff
ilyaburgee Cedar, Thursday, May 31 - 6:30 PM
The ILYA Race Committee staff invites all local club judges, ILYA Race Officers and any interested in race committee work to hear the principles and application of "time-based" racing. This method assumes fleets desire a set amount of time to constitute a race rather than the distance-based system. Length of course for the wind conditions, desired number of legs, high and low wind limits and your questions all will be addressed. Cedar Lake, WI located between Slinger and West Bend near Hwy K will host the evening event. Please RSVP your intention to attend to:

Any questions regarding the agenda items can be sent to Chip. Directions to the club can be found on the club web site:

The ILYA has limited experience with this method but the trend toward this system is growing. The A One Design fleet used this system last year.  The MC, C & E Fleet have approved this approach as an experiment during the Invitational regattas for 2007.  Come and learn how it is done from the RC prospective. This is applicable to local club racing. All are welcome!

TRAP Deadline June 1

Melges Announces Formation of Melges Europe
Melges 32 Melges Performance Sailboats is pleased to announce the launch of Melges Europe. This follows the appointment in 2006 of Northshore Yachting in Sydney as Melges Pacific Rim. These two entities will promote Melges 24 and 32 sailing.

How does this affect our ILYA sailors? As more of our sailors join the winter warm weather sailing crowd, these two boats feature a growing number of our ILYA sailors. The ACURA Key West week is becoming a regular stop for our Inland sailors, both participants and spectators. Full Throttle, skipped by Geneva's Brian Porter, recently was 2nd of 58 in the Melges 24 Worlds held in Santa Cruz, California, May, 2007.
Over 40 C Regatta - June 29
Cotton Sail Race on Thursday, June 28
All C sailors over 40 -- and that's most of you now. Joe Skotarzak qualified for this event this weekend. Will Salty show up to sail? Plan to attend the one event where just being "the nice guy" gets an award.  There are awards to skippers 40-80. Pewaukee promises a great party Thursday night created by Buckaroo and Dex. The event is a three-race, one-day affair. Enjoy the hospitality of Pewaukee.

Team Seven Learns in European Regatta
Starts and Light Air Sailing Skills Developed
The positives are evident from the updates sent from Team Seven. The team reports satisfaction with boat speed and the integration of info from the weather coach. All these skills are essential for the success of the team in China. The sixth place finish out of 58 entries builds experiences for 2008.

Barkow, Capozzi and Howe fly to the States for the Boat US Santa Maria Cup Women's Match Race Championships where they pick up Anna Tunnicliffe as a fourth sailor.
Father's Day - Want to Sail?
Beulah's George Dorn MC Regatta
If you need a low key sailing experience with great food and warm hospitality, plan to attend the annual George Dorn MC regatta. This 25+ year event has seen a plethora of champs over the years but old faces return again and again. The wife team of Kathy Will and Mitzy Dorn always show the sailors a great time. Housing is limited but available. Contact Doug Dorn for more info.
White Lake, MI, Spencer Weersing Memorial
MC sailors of IL and MI will want to travel to the annual Father's Day regatta on White Lake. The strong young fleet of Kimballs and Fox may hope to dominate but will they be in Augusta? Attend to see the action.
C Nationals in Augusta runs through Father's Day
Jeff Annis is calling. Y'all hear? The southern sailors are telling you to register before June 10th for the last pre-registration incentive. $100 for open sailors; $25 less for juniors.
