 M-16 Memories by March 30th

 Where were you?
Many of you grew up in the heyday of the M-16. You cut your teeth on the teamwork and friendships in the fleet. Remember the days of an M-16 Quad Lakes and an M-16 Blue Chip? Jan Gill, the last M-16 ILYA rep, is preparing a retrospective article on the last days of the Inland M-16 fleet. To contribute to the article, send your recollections to janrgill@gmail.com

Race Committee training in Minnesota
April 7th and 14th

For those of you who are in the Western area of the ILYA we ussailinglogoare pleased to announce two seminars; a one day Race Officer, and a one day Judges seminar. Each of these seminars can result in certification as a US Sailing Club Race Officer and US Sailing Judge respectively. Beginners are welcome but some prior knowledge will be helpful. The seminar concentrates on the rules and procedures governing the Race Committee and the Protest Committee. The ILYA is always looking for qualified people to assist in Race management at various regattas, and these qualifications will be most helpful.

For those of you who have little interest in RC or PC work the seminars will still be a valuable addition to your sailing skills. You will learn what all those funny flags and sound signals mean. Also a knowledge of what the RC can and cannot do, when marks and lines can be moved how they must be signaled, under what conditions courses can be lengthened, shortened, abandoned and postponed will all help in your own understanding of what is going on at the regatta.

The seminars will be held in Minneapolis at the Wayzata Yacht Club on the 7th and 14th of April respectively. They will be taught by qualified US Sailing instructors. Click here for Race Committee registration. Contact David Gross for info on the Judges Seminar which is not listed yet on the US Sailing site.

The entire group will hear the keynote address from Nancy Erley, who has twice circumnavigated the world. Both voyages were crewed entirely by women. Check out her website www.tethyoffshore.com.

Following the keynote, the day will be divided into two morning and two afternoon workshop sessions with a brief break for lunch. Attendees will choose from 6 selections per time slot. Nancy Erley will be the presenter for two workshops. For full descriptions of classes, instructors and registration materials visit our website

Minnetonka Welcomes Your donation

The Minnetonka YC Light House Island Garden Club (LHI-GC) would like to extend to all ILYA member clubs and membership the opportunity to be included in the construction of our new paver history walk and the enlargement of the existing patio. Please note deadlineof March 31.

We are hoping to have many ILYA clubs represented. If your Yacht Club decides to donate a "club" paver, we will need a JPG and a PDF of your burgee for the middle line. We plan to build a beautiful curved paver walkway from the pontoon drop off on the South side of the island up to the clubhouse. The existing patio will be enlarged to accommodate our social gatherings. Be part of this history by donating a personalized paver or simply making a donation to help fund this improvement. bhburdick@aol.com,  for more info
