Wisconsin Sailing Team Auctions off Clinic
Alumni Regatta this week
Many alumni sailors return to Lake Mendota along the Union shore to compete in 420s and Tech dinghies each year about this time. It's simply fun as oldsters face the young'uns. For instance, the Stamm sisters joined forces, Evelyn and Sussie, to recapture some Badger memories.
The team hosts an auction at the evening banquet. This year sailing schools have an opportunity to bid on a clinic hosted by Andrew Fox and Brendan Boylan in a boat of choice. These two coaches bring experience in a multitude of classes. For more information (you need to submit a bid by Friday), contact Andrew Fox. Dates and class of boat are negotiable.

PS As the defending 2012 U.S. Laser National Champion, Erik is now ranked 42nd on the Sailing World Cup Circuit (out of 844 ranked Laser sailors) and also ranked 2nd highest U.S. Laser sailor internationally.

Italy is her home this week. Annie along with her crew Briana Provancha have enjoyed quite a spring learning the roads of Europe. A long road trip from the Netherlands to Italy with a new boat ended in a fifth place finish after a BFD start. She notes the team had to fight back in each race.
Denmark, USA to Sweden. The Women's International Match Racing Association is keeping the top teams busy with travel. A series has been developed to keep this discipline of sailing active despite the negative nod in the 2016 Olympics. Top teams compete this year for cash across the world. Steph Roble, Maggie Shea and others compete as the venues and boats change. Her last regatta featured four (Meg Six was added) sailors in Elliotwithout hiking straps. Next event - another boat, another set of sailors. The US Women's Matchracing Event will be hosted by the Chicago Matchracing Center - consider a visit to watch America's best.
Please remember to support your favorite sailor. Our champs are working hard to bring acclaim to our Inland sailing tradition.

On behalf of Dex, our C Nationals Regatta Chair...

Please help us spread the word about registering for C Nationals.  We currently have only 26 boats registered and the regatta is just 10 days away.  It would be nice to get a better count to help us plan.  Also, note that there is an option to register online and pay onsite.

So, anything you can do to help us rally the troops is most appreciated.

High School Sailing - Lake Forest is #1

Lake Forest at Baker Nationals

Twelve schools competed at the highest level Memorial Day weekend for the national title of Team Racing Champions for the Baker Cup. From the Midwest, Lake Forest HS qualified to attend. They finished as the winners of the Bronze consolation category which was ninth overall. Malcolm Lamphere and frequent ILYA attendees Clay Danly and Will Curtiss competed. Lake Forest also competed in the Mallory Nationals the previous week. Lake Forest ends the year as the top-ranked Midwest Interscholastic Sailing Association team. Congratulations, Lake Forest.

The same weekend as the Baker Cup, the National Invitational Regatta is held for those in a second tier of qualifying. This year the event was held at Milwaukee YC with support from the local MYST HS team. Competing at this event were several Midwest Teams. The final results for a total of eight teams were Minnetonka in 4th; Oconomowoc in 7th and Loyola in 8th.

Change in flag use in SIs
   Watch finish line flags

One change in ILYA SIs that is substantial for this year and not mentioned in the soon-to-be-delivered Scow Slants is the information about back-to-back races or no more races to be indicated at the finish line of a race. The new sections of the SIs is as follows under THE FINISH:

Flag "A" displayed with no sound while boats are finishing means 'no more racing today.'

Flag "H" displayed with no sound while boats are finishing means 'racing will continue after a break either on shore or on the water.'

When neither Flag "A" nor Flag "H" is flying while boats are finishing, another race may follow immediately.

Ephraim YC to Host 420 Clinic
 July 6-7

The Ephraim Yacht Club (Ephraim, Door County, Wisconsin) will host an Advanced 420 Clinic, in the EYC's newly acquired fleet of eighteen 420-class dinghies, on July 6 and 7, 2013.  Enrollment is open to all - EYC membership is not required.

The clinic is open to students ages 12 to 18 and will include approximately 12 hours of instruction.  The clinic will serve as an introduction to the 420, and will focus on racing the 420 on short courses, including rigging, boathandling, skipper-crew teamwork, and tactics.  The clinic will serve as an accelerated introduction to the 420 for sailors who are new to the 420. For students who may wish to race in high school or college, this clinic will provide an excellent introduction to the boats and racing format used at those levels.

The clinic will be led by Martha Pitt and Bobby Collins.  Martha was most recently the sailing school director at the Chicago Yacht Club. A 4-year varsity sailor at Boston College, Martha was a skipper on BC's 2008 national championship team and twice earned All-American honorable mention.   Bobby is the head sailing coach at the Chicago Yacht Club.  Bobby is the former coach of the Northwestern University sailing team and has decades of experience racing and coaching dinghies in the U.S. and in his native Ireland.

To enroll, students should be eligible for the EYC's Level 3 class or higher, or should have completed an intermediate level of instruction in another program.

The $110 clinic price includes instruction, use of EYC boats, lunch Saturday and Sunday, and participation in the EYC's Sunday afternoon 420 series races.  Students should bring their own PFD and appropriate clothing and gear.

Enrollment is limited and this clinic will fill up quickly, so enroll now at
