Collegians, high schoolers and parents are enjoying the 08 ILYA Youth Champs. For the first time, the Univerity of Wisconsin has opened its dorm doors which enriches this experience. PRO Russ Ackley with wife Nancy, Larry Krause at the windward end of the course and Roger Walsh with help from UW sailor Matt Kirley on the gates ran three races in diminishing winds in the morning. Just as the RC readied to set the afternoon's races, the locally-reknowned "Harvey" sounded the train horn indicating "come to shore". Storms plagued the afternoon. At the end of the day, Wisco's Rob Pickens with crew Kelsey Cramer top the 420 fleet.

The Laser fleet is divided into Radial and Full Rig. Wisco's Christine Porter tops the radials and Purdue's Carlos Abisambra (last year's winner) tops the full rigs.
Regatta chair Aaron Mann recruited sailors from Eckerd College in FL, Uinversity of Minnesota, Miami of Ohio and potential Stanford sailor Grace Porter to the event. There are younger Geneva, Oshkosh, Neenah, LaBelle, Wonder Lake, Cedar and Pewaukee sailors.
Racing resumes with a 9:30 signal tomorrow morning.

Sam Rogers tops the leader board ahead of Tom Burton and Augie Barkow. 71 sailors are in attendance for the Centennial Nationals in Chautauqua, NY. The third race shows popular sailors with BFDs. For full results, click here. The E website features a live webcam and a blog for the event.
Jeff Annis reports the results from Diamond Lake where he leads the 32 boat fleet. Peter Tourmanoff is winner of two races and in second, Rick Trester won one today and is in third. Tim Fredman won race four and sits in fourth. The website does not have interim results so check tomorrow for the winners circle. Beulah sailors George Kutchenreuter with John Barr as crew took the Senior TRAP title this week followed by Michael Barr with Charlie Kutschenreuter as crew in the Junior Fleet. Brothers, sisters and cousins all around in this event. The official results will be posted next week on the ILYA site. 25 instructors assisted a total of 38 junior teams and 41 senior teams in this year's training event. Cousin of the Barrs, Mary Claire Kiernan with crew Sarah Kubicek won the best first year skipper.Brittany Weber with crew Carolyn Wehlen won the junior sportsmanship award. The best under 12 skipper was the regatta winner, Micahael Barr. What a bright future for our X fleet as he won the tiebreaker over a young Sazama brother team from Okauchee. The senior fleet sportsmanship winners were Ellie Banholzer with Margaret Brennan. The second place senior team was Beulah's Michael Barth with crew Eric Komas.

Delavan Lake Yacht Club ("DLYC") is excited to be hosting the 2008 ILYA Class E Invitational Regatta July 10-13, 2008.  This is the first ILYA sanctioned Class E regatta since the approval of the scantling rule change to permit both asymmetrical and symmetrical spinnakers by the National Class E Scow Association.  The DLYC E Fleet was instrumental in this change. DLYC President Tim O'Keefe can you tell you over a cocktail how he sat down with the DLYC E Fleet in November 2001 with a crude model of what has now has become the current asymmetrical Class E Scow and convinced the DLYC  E Fleet to take this flier.  A lot has happened with the DLYC E Fleet since the last ILYA Class E Invitational in 1962.
We encourage everyone to come and participate in the great regatta experience that DLYC has become known to provide.  Over the past few years, our members have been dedicated to improving our facilities, so come see what has been done, especially of recent with the dining and lounge areas.  We also have WiFi capability for those that want to keep connected with the real world.

We understand the cost of attending regattas, so we have encouraged our members to open up their homes to you.  Please contact our housing coordinator (Richard Beers at so that we can try to eliminate one of the most expensive components (next to the boat) of attending a regatta.

We have planned a full schedule of social events to complement the racing.  The first event is Thursday, July 10, with a practice race in the late afternoon followed by on-site registration and a welcoming reception at the DLYC from 6:00 p.m. to 9:00 pm.  There will be a variety of complimentary light hors d'oeuvres, soda and beer and a cash bar for additional refreshments.

A complimentary continental breakfast will be available on race day mornings at the DLYC beginning at 8:00 a.m.  Lunch will be available on all race days.  On Friday evening, there will be DLYC's famous Fish Fry followed by karaoke.  Saturday evening will include a steak dinner followed by a party with the band Dockside (which includes DLYC members) at the DLYC.  Single meal tickets and discount meal packages will be available for purchase at registration.  A cash bar will be available throughout the afternoons and evenings at the DLYC during the regatta.
At the present, we intended to dry sail the regatta.  We will have a number of moorings in for use during launch, lunch and pullout so the boats do not have to be banging against one another on the piers.  Shuttle service will be provided.

Trophies will be awarded during lunch on Sunday.
See the official Notice of Race on the ILYA website ( for complete information and lodging options.  If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact Regatta Co-chairs Mark and Connie Hetzler at or (773) 339-6321 (for Mark) or or (310) 663-3382 (for Connie).
