A Scow Nationals at Torch
Breathtakingly Beautiful in Michigan
PRO Mark DeGuire exercised patience all day to finally begin a race at 4:30. In 5-7 (mostly 5mph) winds, the fleet got the first race under its belt in aquamarine waters which are most picturesque. It is a mix of Caribbean and rustic here in the relaxed spacious  20 mile long lake. With the "narrows" at one mile, the lake is near perfection. Many sailors took the scenic Mackinaw route which added to the experience. More today in promising increased winds.

Road to Rio - Quick Update from Haeger/Provancha
Right now, Briana and I are down in Rio attending a regatta put on by the coaches in the 470 class. We have officially picked our Olympic Games set up including mast, centerboard, boom, rudder and sails. It feels great to have the gear aspect checked off our list and now on to getting off the starting line.

For this camp, we are bringing in a coach to help us gain some local knowledge as well as hone in on some starting technique in current. Coming from the Midwest, current is something that I have struggled with quite a bit at this venue. Starting especially is an aspect we will have to improve on if we plan to win a medal this summer. We are committed to putting the time in this camp and the others to follow as the games is quickly approaching

Register Now for 12th Annual Extreme Regatta
The Oshkosh Yacht Club invites all X boaters to the 12th Annual Xtreme Regatta to be held July 18 & 19th on Lake Winnebago. In addition to "big lake" sailing the Xtreme provides an excellent opportunity to socialize with your peers at our Casino Night to be held at The Waters on Monday evening.
Registration includes lunches both days and a Monday evening buffet for both the skipper and crew, city mandated launch passes, and Casino night with a photo booth and cool door prizes. Registrations by June 30 also include logo t-shirts for the skipper and crew. Lunches for parents and siblings, additional buffet dinners for siblings, and extra t-shirts are available for purchase. Parents will be able to order dinner off the menu at The Waters. Siblings are welcome to attend Casino night.
Custom made trophies will be awarded to the Top 10 finishers (skipper & crew). The winning skipper will be presented with a perpetual trophy. There will also be fun prizes in novelty categories.
Registration is available on the Oshkosh Yacht club website at www.oshkoshyachtclub.org.
A block of rooms has been reserved at the Best Western Premier Waterfront Hotel & Convention Center. A group rate of $109.99 is available through June 30. To reserve your room call 1-855-230-1900 and mention the Xtreme Regatta.
If you have any questions or need assistance with logistics, feel free to contact the regatta chair at genarorrer@yahoo.com.

Make champions or great women sailors
This year the clinic will be offered in two locations to allow all our ILYA women to benefit from the experience. The White Bear clinic, June 28-29, is rapidly approaching. Consider learning to sail as an adult on a scow or youth sailors, hone your skills and become a champion. For those of you who just want to hear about sailing, plan to attend the banquet at the lovely White Bear Yacht Club and hear Betsy Allison speak of her experiences. Contact Karen Alnes for more info.  Register here.

Spring Lake is hosting this year. If you have questions, contact Andy Hubbard at You can sail two or more classes of scows at this unique family oriented regatta. Each class is scheduled for 5 races over the 4 day event. For example, you can sail an E, then a Melges 17. You can't however sail both C and Melges 17 because those two classes start at the same time. Two race courses are set up at the same time in the groups below. This keeps the Optis separate from the E's, for example.

E Scow and Optimists
MC and Laser
C Scow, Melges 17 and Butterfly

Next year this annual championship will be on Crystal Lake, MI.
