The editor had a quick visit to the Buddy Melges Sailing Center. It is spectacular! The deck view and seating will be the showcase of the lake. Nautical motifs throughout from staircase to lighting. Sailing school began on Monday and tonight is the first official A activity of the season. Joe Kutschenreuter has a view that is breathtaking. The landscaping is shaping up. We are all in for a special event.
As mentioned in prior issues, there is a need for as many of us to volunteer as possible. We have three shifts throughout the day: 7-11m 11-3 and 3-7. There is rest or relaxing time in all shifts but when the boats are heading out or returning to this grand site, we will need all hands on deck. Please review the online volunteer site, share with your relatives and fellow sailors. Free food for volunteers from the generous efforts of Craig Parker of Cedar, IN. The ILYA is fortunate to have such strong volunteerism. Sign up here.
C and E scows - Geneva is ready to assign mooring spots which are limited. There are a total of 20 E scow spots at South Shore Club and 30 C scow moorings at Brookwood. E scows will need to bring mooring buoy and line/anchor. C's will have some permanent mooring spots plus a few will need to BYOB. Water moorings are on a first come basis but pre-registration is required. Please register for the regatta; then email John Zils to reserve your spot for wet sailing.
Unlike Oshkosh, Lake Geneva YC is not located near fast food opportunities. You will have three options:
1 - packaged lunches onsite which are upscale, catered lunches from a local caterer. This works well for those who need a substantial but quick lunch. Often the ease of purchasing a full meal package is the right choice. The meal packages are discounted by 20% for those who register early. Thanks to our generous sponsors who have allowed us to subsidize the meal packages. Seating will be available at the club under the tent, on the lower deck and around the grounds or grab your lunch and go to the boat. These are all pre-sold meals.
2 - For those of you who can afford a more leisurely approach, the club Grill/Restaurant will be open for a more upscale, seated lunch. New chef Justin Sholes is eager to serve you. The upper deck view will be worth the meal.
3 - An onsite grill run by Craig Parker and volunteers will feature burgers, sausages, chips and drink. The Cantina will be open 11-3 each day. Chips, sandwich and drink for $5. This may be the quick choice for you or your children. Cantina will not be open on Sunday or registration day.
Meal package options sold here.
It is still not too late to sponsor part of the event so show your generosity so the sailors enjoy the event even more. The full meal package is subsidized by sponsorship now at approximately 20% off for the full package. ---
