ILYA Championships - Plans Firming up

The editor had a quick visit to the Buddy Melges Sailing Center. It is spectacular! The deck view and seating will be the showcase of the lake. Nautical motifs throughout from staircase to lighting. Sailing school began on Monday and tonight is the first official A activity of the season. Joe Kutschenreuter has a view that is breathtaking. The landscaping is shaping up. We are all in for a special event.

As mentioned in prior issues, there is a need for as many of us to volunteer as possible. We have three shifts throughout the day: 7-11m 11-3 and 3-7. There is rest or relaxing time in all shifts but when the boats are heading out or returning to this grand site, we will need all hands on deck. Please review the online volunteer site, share with your relatives and fellow sailors. Free food for volunteers from the generous efforts of Craig Parker of Cedar, IN. The ILYA is fortunate to have such strong volunteerism.  Sign up here

C and E scows - Geneva is ready to assign mooring spots which are limited. There are a total of 20 E scow spots at South Shore Club and 30 C scow moorings at Brookwood. E scows will need to bring mooring buoy and line/anchor. C's will have some permanent mooring spots plus a few will need to BYOB. Water moorings are on a first come basis but pre-registration is required. Please register for the regatta; then email John Zils to reserve your spot for wet sailing.

Unlike Oshkosh, Lake Geneva YC is not located near fast food opportunities. You will have three options:

1 - packaged lunches onsite which are upscale, catered lunches from a local caterer. This works well for those who need a substantial but quick lunch. Often the ease of purchasing a full meal package is the right choice. The meal packages are discounted by 20% for those who register early. Thanks to our generous sponsors who have allowed us to subsidize the meal packages. Seating will be available at the club under the tent, on the lower deck and around the grounds or grab your lunch and go to the boat. These are all pre-sold meals.

2 - For those of you who can afford a more leisurely approach, the club Grill/Restaurant will be open for a more upscale, seated lunch. New chef Justin Sholes is eager to serve you. The upper deck view will be worth the meal.

3 - An onsite grill run by Craig Parker and volunteers will feature burgers, sausages, chips and drink. The Cantina will be open 11-3 each day. Chips, sandwich and drink for $5. This may be the quick choice for you or your children. Cantina will not be open on Sunday or registration day.

Meal package options sold here.

It is still not too late to sponsor part of the event so show your generosity so the sailors enjoy the event even more. The full meal package is subsidized by sponsorship now at approximately 20% off for the full package. ---

I-20 REGISTRATION for Championships at Mendota

X Championship at Pewaukee

Opti Championships at Beulah

Malcolm Lamphere Named to Honorable Mention
Collegiate All-American List
Freshman Excels
Fifty-three college sailors were announced today as members of the 2015 All-American Team. Yale landed both primary skippers in the All- American list but their two younger sailors were listed as Honorable Mentions. This is quite a feat. Lamphere is one of two freshman men to receive recognition. Lamphere marks a most successful freshman year in singlehanded competition - fifth in the nation, team racing with the National Championship Yale team and participating in the qualifying rounds of the national co-ed series winning races to allow the two primary skippers a day's rest.  He is a rising star in college sailing.

C Invite - Beulah
Enter Before July 3rd to Avoid Late Extra $24

Need housing? We will provide it. Want bountiful food? We will provide it. A Friday Night Booze Cruise disguised as a Tour of the Lake? We will provide it along with Klement's famous Italian sandwiches and loads of salads for a casual Friday Night. The real crowdpleaser is the Dave Davenport Saturday Night Dinner. He is a master in the kitchen.

We are asking for a favor. We have heard everyone say they are coming but only two thus far have registered. Save yourself the late entry fee BUT help race committee plan the courses. If you know Beulah, you know how great it is to small lake sail. If you have not been there, it is a treat but Beulah's large home fleet, our numerous land points and bays provide the RC with some great opportunities. Help us by entering now.  Food package sales here.

Regatta News - Youth
LBSS Opti - June 22
Mother Nature complicated the day and resulted in a low turnout. Still, the early youth regattas are on schedule and make for great practice.

Help the Race Committee
Downwind finishes often allow for speed in the start of the succeeding race but reading sail numbers with this finish may provide a challenge for the finishing boats. The trick RC uses is to look down on the deck to read the letters as the boat crosses. If you are a C or X boat, please add the deck numbers to your boat if they are absent. The class measurer will ask you to add them at the event even if with electrical tape but why use this homemade approach? Dress up your boat with the proper numbering.

GLSS Dinghyfest - First Regatta at Buddy Melges Sailing Center
Fontana Bridge News
NO trailers are allowed across the Abbey bridge.  This includes all sailboat trailers including X Boat and MC trailers.  Apparently they will be cracking down and ticketing all vehicles crossing bridge with trailers.

For those of us traveling to Geneva, please consider exiting Hwy 43 at East Troy taking Hwy 120 to Lake Geneva , take 12 to Lake Geneva and take the 50 exit and the bypass around the city of Lake Geneva. The time will not be substantially different.

Please be aware of this inconvenience and spread the word to any friends who may be transporting boats to and from the club for any upcoming regattas.
The Dinghyfest features X boats on Monday and Tuesday. This is the tuneup for the BIG GIG in Pewaukee. All the top boats will attend. PRO David Porter returns with his team - Jim Smith, Beth Wyman, Julie Haeger, Candace Porter, Suzi Reese and new this year Dale Roble. It's the same team for over 10 years who love to welcome this competitive fleet to great water similar to the long courses you will see at the ILYA X champs.

Wednesday is Optimist Dinghy and 420 day. New this year is John Zils as PRO of the RWB fleet. This is his second time around since his grandson enters the RWB fleet. Jane Pegel returns as Head Judge this year. The Green fleet will see Candace Porter return as PRO but with the help of most capable GLSS instructors as experts for the land sessions and coaching on the water. Thursday is O'pen Bic day.
