420 Champs - New ILYA Champs Rolander and Davies Win
Nine high wind one-mile leg length races produced two new ILYA winners. Lake Geneva's Griffin Rolander and Mark Davies had an outstanding series with no race worse than a fourth. Both Rolander and second place Augie Dale (Pewaukee) and Maddie Gruenke (Nagawicka) won three races. Minnesota sailors took third through fifth. The event showed the practice gained by daily practice. On Friday, no sailor avoided a tipover. On Saturday perhaps only two boats were over simultaneously. Sunday's improvement was evident with only one tipover in the final three races.
Griffin Rolander and Mark Davies win the Champs. Mark has just returned from a 420 clinic out east. Griffin plans to enter Tufts in the fall.
Augie Dale and Maddie Gruenke won three races on way to runnerup. These two sail in local high school sailing running out of Pewaukee.
Will Crary and Susie Voltz from White Bear were last year's Champs. Crary will enter Universitiy of Vermont this fall. This team has sailed together in X and 420s for 7 years.
In fourth were White Bear's Eddie Cox, a sophomore at William Hobart Smith, and Kate Klement, a freshman at UW-Madison.
Minnetonka's Jake Siegel and Kendall Van Horne were fifth.

Two Kate Goes Sportsmanship Awards were presented to Kenosha's Alex Myers and Ethan Tichelaar. These two young men were our youngest competitors and participated in the clinic plus three days of racing. They arrived with older sails which made their experience a bit more challenging than the remainder of the fleet. They tipped over multiple times, struggling to point of sheer fatigue. When presented with the option to rest for a session, they refused to give into the adversity and clamored to learn more with each challenge. They completed every race, smiled with the sheer enjoyment of learning more each day and showed a determination rarely seen in sailors so young. Congratulations for their example, joy of the sport and verbal consideration extended to the race committee.
A Nationals - Burdick/Blanchard boat repeats
A first Racing was close as the finest sailors in the Inland competed on Lake Geneva June 21-23. The fifteen A scows were filled with names of sailors who lead decades of the ILYA winner's circle. It took back to back race wins for the Silverhawk to take home the top honor. The team shown above is Andy Burdick, Joe Kutschenreuter, Molly Forbes, Ben Porter, Peter Keck and Jim Petersen.
Minnetonka's Pat Hughes with Harry Melges led on Friday and Saturday. Hans Melges joined the boat on Sunday. Other members are Chris and Tony Jewett, Harry Melges IV and Rick Kotovic.
a third Vincent Porter sailing John Anderson's Eagle provided excitement always in the hunt. With a mast problem in the last race, he had to add a DNF to his score. Shown here are Greg Gifford, Matt Ripkey, Ryan Fitzgerald, Junior Impens, Dave Navin, Hannah Ripkey, Vincent Porter and Kyle Navin.
A fourth  Mike Keefe has shown steady improvement each year. He was leading a race at last year's nationals. He sailed a consistent event this weekend with a crew of Mike, Bob Hillier, Tony Trajkovich, Zack Maher, and Kevin Jewett.

Petey Crawford and Penalty Box Productions - always Fun!
C Nationals
Minnetonka's Peter Crawford has always had a talent to make people happy. No surprise his job continues to bring us enjoyment. Petey works big Melges events but he was on tap for the Pewaukee's C Nationals. Here is his video depicting the action, or lack thereof. --- No air racing, but great tunes to document the weekend.

Pram Power for the Beginning Opti Sailors

August 8th

"Save the date, Thursday, August 8th, is the 24th annual Pram Power. All lakes welcome!  This regatta is geared toward beginner sailors, younger or older, and those who don't tend to sail at the top of their fleet.  Please refer to the NOR for more details.  While one fleet sails, the other does crafts. The craft package is a great option for non-racing siblings.  If the sailor is in the JR age group and interested in sailing 3 races, he/she should sign up for the SR fleet, keeping in mind the sailor would then be scored with the senior fleet. We will be serving our Taco Lunch!  Don't forget the WHITE cotton t-shirt, this year's craft is sure to be a favorite!
