Griffin Rolander Leads
Big wind, tipovers, tired sailors --- the 20-boat 420 fleet has seen gusts to 30mph, black skies, postpones for weather. After a full day and a half of clinic and two days of sailing, the fleet is showing steady improvement in heavy air sailing. It is possible every sailor has spent time in the water.
Colin Smith, recent graduate of Brown University, has coached the event from start to finish. An intense clinic preceded the regatta. Colin has held briefings before the day's action, an end-of-day review, between race tips and on the water verbal assistance for every boat in trouble. This has been a fine sailing experience for every one of the 40 sailors.  25% of the fleet is non-ILYA which was a goal for the event. Kenosha, in particular, has seen the ILYA at its best. They arrived with older sails which did not allow them to perform optimally. Mike Crary, dad of last year's winner, provided a much fresher set of sails so the two sailors had a more beneficial experience.
Action concludes today after another morning of instruction followed by racing 9-noonish.

A Nationals
Melvin leads close pack
The same weather pattern troubling Delavan has provided spills and thrills and WILD RIDES at the 15-boat A Nationals on Geneva. One broken mast provided excitement for that boat and two nearby. Fortunately no injuries in a dramatic show. The event concludes today.
The evening party Saturday night provided time for socialization but also featured attractive information on the proposed new building, the Buddy Melges Sailing Center, which will benefit all sailors in the Midwest as well as the fortunate Geneva members with improved facilities for hosting events and training sailors. Visit the Buddy Melges Sailing Center website for an overview of the project and an opportunity to donate or pledge to celebrate the treasure of Zenda.
