Youth Regatta notices

Here we go - we dream of this all winter. Hold your hats, get the care fueled up and enjoy all our ILYA clubs at their best.

Beulah Opti - Optis, Optis, Optis ---- and a new addition of 420s

This is the first big local event of the year. Rumor has it Geneva is bringing 20! The Green fleet usually draws 15+. Beulah is a little lake so the Green sailors always feel safe. It's early in the season so it's a great tuneup for all that is yet to come.

NOR   Register

All American Joe Kutschenreuter will serve as head coach. The fleets are not filled as yet but it is in the late fee time frame. It's been 20 years of a great regatta. Come enjoy the coached event to prepare you for all the big ones to follow.

GLSS - the largest starting line in the Inland

This is the first and often only time the top contenders meet face to face before the Inland. North and South, junior and senior - all on one line. Same RC team for years; come visit Geneva one last time before they build a new facility.

NOR  Register

Xtreme - Xciting, Xcellent Xtravagnaza

No one throws a party like Oshkosh. The water and WATERS always provide a great event. New this year is a Monday morning clinic by Andy Burdick. It's only 7-10 days before WYA and the Inland -- the best practice around with the best coaching.

Register   NOR

US Sailing Ladder events
 Sears - Bemis - Smythe

Dear Clubs and Junior Programs:

US Sailing has posted its eliminations for the 2012 U.S. Junior Championships at http://championships.ussailing.org/Youth/ChubbJrChampionships/AreaSemiFinals.htm. There you will find the Notice of Race for your Area, Championship Conditions and the link to online registration if available.  The AC group will be presenting at the finals this year and what a fantastic experience it will be for all the kids.

A few changes that we would like to bring to your attention. The first is that there is a minimum fleet size of five (5) for the singlehanded and doublehanded fleets.   This is to encourage more competition as the Area level.   For the Sears Cup Area Semi-Finals, that number is three (3).   This year as the finalists will be sailing J/22s, there is a weight requirement and we will allow the sailors to race in teams of three or four. All fleets must be on the line, racing  to be able to qualify for the finals.

Please encourage your junior sailors to participate.   For many, this will be their first step on a long and happy road of racing.  If you have specific questions about your local Semi-Final, e-mail your Area Representative.

We look forward to seeing your club, organization or sailing program represented on the water this summer. If you have yet to renew, the link is membership.ussailing.org.

Keep sailing,

Liz Walker
