Annie Haeger ranked #1 in World
New rankings this week
After the latest European spring season, our ILYA sailors are moving up the rankings ladder. In women's 470, Annie Haeger and Briana Provancha are ranked #1 on a points system. Gordon Lamphere in the Finn class has moved up to #9. Erik Bowers in the Laser class is now 36th. They all take a break from competition in their Olympic classes for approximately one month. But a break? They are working, training, competing in any boat around. Make contact with your local notable and give them encouragement, respect for their efforts and consider a donation to their cause at the ILYA Foundation.
Is there another race?
A or H flag? What does that mean?
With the new rulebook 2013-16, the second repeater is GONE. Just when our local clubs starting using the flag, it is no more. It's as simple as this --- if there is no extra flag flying, you can assume there is another race. If the race committee is going to take a break - lunch or otherwise - the H flag will fly. If the A flag is flying, sailing is done for the day. This applies to the postpone system on shore also. If the race is postponed with an A flag under it, the racing is postponed for the day. We use this often since there are most cherished trophies assigned to designated races. If the race is postponed, rather than abandoned, the order of awarding the trophies is maintained in proper order. If the H is flying below the postpone, stand by - RC is placing racing on hold. Listen for further instructions. Keep your eyes open at the next regatta. RC is using the new system.
