Delavan Invites you to Attend 420 Inland Champs
Signup NOW for clinic

Ten pre-registered boats and four are outside the ILYA. What a great start to the event! This regatta has been marked as promotional for our association. All sailors, ILYA members or not, are entered at the same price. This is our opportunity to showcase our fine sailing venue (isn't Delavan the most fun ever with volleyball, soccer, firepit?) to our Lake Michigan neighbors. If your fleet wants to encourage our youth to take a glance your way, show up at Delavan and give the youth rides in the evening in your boat.

Thursday - Friday - Saturday clinic:

Colin Smith, who has raced his way to the top 3 finishes, FORTY SEVEN times in 6 years (well isn't he worth listening to, especially if he is talking with you directly?) will be the ILYA Club 420 clinic instructor on Thursday from 9-4 pm, Friday 9 - noon and on the water between race coaching Friday afternoon and Saturday. This is an opportunity to "warmup" before the event, get a feel for college racing in  420s and hear from one of the nation's All Americans. Lunch is included in the Clinic.

Friday - Sunday Racing

Registration Friday until noon. Racing starting at 1pm Friday.

Friday night offers Delavan's Friday Night Fish Fry, a well attended event. Saturday night will be BBQ, Volleyball and music at the firepit.

To register for clinic:

Regatta Brochure:

Thanks to the generosity of the ILYA Promotion Committee, the youth discount offered to ILYA Youth sailors will be in effect. Each youth sailor will pay 1/2 the registration fee. Register now!

Lake Beulah June Opti Event - Prelude to ILYA Champs
June 24 - it's here before you know it!
It's the first Opti regatta of the season for our ILYA youth. Come to Beulah in June and then return in late July for the ILYA Opti Champs. Parents, this is a great first regatta for your green fleeter - small water but always great friendly competition. Looking for great champ competition. Geneva, Chicago and Beulah will be here. Will you?
To enter, visit the Lake Beulah Sailing School website. NOR here. Registration here. Be ready to fill out concussion forms for all youth regattas now. It is WI law for all youth sports events.
MIR C Regatta
Patrick Lynch and Chris Impens Win!
31 C scows took to the water on Sunday after a playday on Saturday. Turns out it's fun on the water or off. PRO Chip Mann wisely got off three great races B/B/B on Sunday with two downwind finishes and a final upwind to satisfy the crowd. The hit of the regatta may have been the lazy Saturday with loads of conversation over cleaning, waxing boats, looking at the 2013 C scow new edition. Free beer compliments of Mark Kiernan (Bud dealer in IN) and Dan Klement of Realty Executives and great food from the women of Beulah made the windless day better. Note three new 2013 C scows were in the top five. Several more in attendance.
As for sailing:
1 - Patrick Lynch and Chris "Junior" Impens  - Browns Lake
2 - Kent Haeger and Mike Greeson - Beulah
3- John Porter and Pat Welscher - Beulah
4 - Will Haeger, Brad Roble and Erin Monahan -Beulah
5 - Jim Tews and Jen Jaessing - Cedar Lake, WI
C Nationals begin this week on Pewaukee
Registration includes all meals - and some free beer
Click here to register for C Nationals on Pewaukee. Thirty-eight are pre-registered. Come to Pewaukee for a great time and the best C sailing around. Walkin registration is welcome - BE THERE!
Our Foundation Stars this week

The 470 Europeans are next on the line for Haeger/Provancha. Click here to follow the week's action or the Team HP Facebook page for reports of the day.
The US Sailing Women's Matchracing Championship rolls into Chicago June 13-16. Familiar ILYA faces will participate in the eight-boat series sailing in Tom 28s. Steph Roble takes her crew of Maggie Shea with two others to compete in her new "homelake", the Chicago Matchracing Center. Sally Barkow returns to the women's circuit but this time as tactician on Jen Wilson's boat. Meg Six will serve as crew on one of the visiting teams. Both Sally and Meg spend a great deal of time at the CMRC proving our women are making a lifetime commitment to the sport.

Gordy was home and on the water on Lake Geneva this week. HE is off to Kiel for Kiel Week mid month. He will come home for the US Nationals in Cabrillo Beach, CA and then return to Europe for the Finn Europeans in Germany in late July and the Worlds in Estonia at the end of August.

Minnetonka YC was the site of a fundraiser for the '16 Olympic hopeful. No further travel news on his website but the Twitter feed reports the event was "smashing".
Please remember to support your favorite sailor. Our champs are working hard to bring acclaim to our Inland sailing tradition.

   Okoboji Social Scene

All racing will be back-to-backwith on-the-water lunches. There will not be breaks for lunch on shore. Pre-ordering required. See the Regatta Store.

Post-Racing Social Program: Get ready for a fun-filled event at Okoboji. Better hospitality and sailing won't be found. It's a tourist town with loads of attractions for the family. Arnold's Park will keep your family busy for hours - an old-fashioned amusement park. Rest assured the go-kart track is still open. How else would we have those tales to repeat year after year? Most often, you don't need to leave the club. Enjoy a relaxing post race wind down on the chairs in front of the club with the outdoor bar only feet away.

Friday Nights at OYC: Open Bar for club members and regatta participants from 6-9 p.m. The MC Fleet will host Friday, August 9; the C Fleet will host Friday, August 16.

Class C: Captain's, a local bar, will host the C Fleet on Thursday, August 8th with appetizer and drink specials.

Class A: "Party in the Cornfields" Sunday, August 11. Bar open at 6, dinner at 7. Mr. Pork Chop, of RAGBRAI fame, will be coming to the club to grill his famous Iowa Chops. He will also grill sweet corn and provide side salads and homemade pies from the Pie Lady from RAGBRAI. Pre-ordering required. See the Regatta Store.

Class E/MC: Murphy's, a local bar, will host the E/MC Fleets Thursday, August 15, with drink specials.

Lunches and Regatta Wear: See the Regatta Store for ordering information and deadlines.

Access the Regatta Store via the Okoboji Yacht Club web site ( or click HERE.

This is where you can order your custom designed regatta wear and your lunches for the 2013 ILYA Championship Regatta. We have a large selection of items to offer and hope you will browse the storefront. All items ordered will be shipped directly to the Okoboji Yacht Club. For regatta participants, your items will be distributed to you with your registration packets at registration. For OYC members, who order separate from the regatta, your items will also be shipped to the yacht club and you will be notified when they arrive for pick up.

Because the items are custom screened and embroidered, all sales of regatta wear are final. Turn-around time for orders will be approximately 2-3 weeks, as they are made when they are ordered. The last day to place an order for regatta registrants will be July 20, 2013 in order to receive in time for registration pick up. The storefront will remain open until September 1, 2013 for those who wish to order merchandise after the regatta.

Lunches for the 2013 ILYA Championship Regatta will be pre-ordered. The storefront offers meals by Fleet (C, A, MC/E) and by day of sailing (Days 1, 2, 3) so please pay attention to this when ordering. OYC needs to provide a count to the caterer a few days ahead of each race day. Deadlines for pre-ordering lunches will be August 5 for the C Fleet, August 8 for the A Fleet and August 12 for the E/MC Fleets.  During registration each skipper will receive an insulated lunch bag to be re-used daily. Sack lunches may be picked up at the club the morning of racing and you can transfer your lunch items to the insulated bags to keep cold and fresh on the boat.

Reservations for the A Fleet dinner, Party in the Cornfields, Sunday, August 11, 2013, at the Okoboji Yacht Club, will also be made through the storefront. The deadline for pre-registering will be August 3, 2013 so we can give Mr. Pork Chop a head count. Regatta participants as well as OYC club members are welcome to sign up for this event.

Please contact Jacque Schwartz, 303-819-4895, with any questions or issues related to regatta wear, lunches, and the A Fleet dinner.
USODA Midwest Champs
Breathtaking Gull Lake to Host
Most of you did not know Gull Lake was on the map until the X Inland was hosted there. NOW, most of us can't wait to go back. It is without doubt one of the most beautiful areas in the country. The editor had not understood the meaning of "God's country" until I stopped my car while driving in, stepped out on an isolated road, smelled the pines which were higher than imaginable and breathed in the wonder of this tourist spot. Then you add the hospitality of the yacht club and it is sheer joy to attend an event there.
To the regatta - USODA hosts qualifying events throughout the country. Our sailors may attend any of the qualifying events but our nearest events are the Midwests, Great Lakes and Great Plains. All provide an opportunity to qualify for the Team Trials huge event in the spring. (This year it was hosted by Pewaukee Sailing School). The Team Trials - boasting nearly 200 sailors - determines the traveling teams for the next year's participation in Europe, Asia and the North Americas.
