 MC Invite -- Beulah

July 7 - 10 is going to be a great weekend on Beulah!  We've got 33 competitors pre-registered and I know there will be more.  I expect we will be in the 40-50 boat range.

Here are some things to think about for the regatta:

1.       Clinic on Thursday:  Zack Clayton and John Porter have graciously offered to do a free clinic on Thursday afternoon for anyone registered for the regatta, if enough folks are interested.  This would start at 2 pm.  If you are interested in attending this clinic, I need to know by Tuesday night, July 5.  Based on numbers, we will then decide whether to go forward.  Please reply to me at this email address if you want to attend.

2.       Things to bring:

a.       As noted in the NOR, we are going to encourage wet sailing, although dry sailing is not prohibited.  There is a sheltered bay for mooring.  Please bring anchor, buoy and line.  The bay is shallow.

b.      Water bottle.  We are supporting the ILYA green initiative and will have bulk water.  Bring a water bottle or you can purchase a Lake Beulah Sailing School water bottle while they last. Summerset Sail will have water available on land for your fill-up.

3.       Friday night pontoon cruise.  After racing on Friday, we will be offering a pontoon cruise of Beulah, with refreshments and appetizers.  If you're bringing your spouses, this would be a fun time together on the water.  The cruise and refreshments are included in your regatta package, but we'll need to charge $10 for spouses or other extra folks.  After the cruise, we'll return to the club for the Friday night cookout, included in the $10.

4.       Heroes and Legends.  To honor our previous major regatta winners and have a little fun, we're going to pair them up and score them separately as teams (this is not team racing).  We'll pair a "hero" (younger person) with a "legend" (older person) for the teams.  (Note that "younger" and "older" are relative terms in this fleet.)  I'll announce the pairings at the skippers meeting.  There will be an award for the winning H&L pair.

5.   Saturday night steak fry. The Beulah C fleet will host the Saturday night event just for you. Bring your spouse for a tenderloin dinner. Cost is $15.

6.       Schedule.  Reminder that registration is from 3:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. on Thursday, July 7, and 7:30 a.m. to 9:00 a.m. on Friday, July 8.   Free beer and a free casual meal on Thursday night!  Skippers briefing at 9:00 am on Friday.  First race is scheduled for a 10:00 am warning signal on July 8.

See you this weekend!

E Invite - Delavan
Always Fun at Delavan
When you come to Delavan for the ILYA E Invite, don't expect to spend a lot of money for a bagged sandwich to take out on the racecourse. Come for the wind, and stay for the food...affordable food, and lots of it. OR come for the food and stay for the wind. We are open to all of it.

We are in the process of putting housing together, as we know housing is an important feature for some sailing teams. For a housing request, please email delavanlakeyachtclub@gmail.com

Youth Development Committee Meeting at Geneva

ilyaburgeeSailing School Directors and Instructors - Commodore Rick Trester asks you to join him Monday night of GLSS, July 11th. The meeting is scheduled for immediately after racing at the park near Gordy's in conjuction with the evening party. Why attend? The ideas you generate here impact our direction for the future. The addition of support for the Laser and 420, the introduction of HS sailing - all came from the Youth Development Committee years ago. This is YOUR opportunity to learn, share or just give us direction. The official X and Opti meetings will take place at the championship events. If there are items that need to go on their agendas, bring them to this meeting.
C Invite News

This year the C scows will travel to Fond du Lac Sailing club for the Invitational. This is the first time that they have been there. As your Commodore, I am issuing a challenge similar to the challenge at Green Lake two years ago. I will award a 1.75 liter of Mount Gay rum to the ILYA fleet that has the most boats registered by July 1st. I will award the bottle during the Saturday night party. Last time around Beulah led the way. Let's see who can take the Mount Gay away from them.

Rick Trester

From the regatta committee:

We are looking at doing a three lunch package with two on the water and something a little more deluxe on Sunday on shore before the awards. Saturday evening we are looking at doing something on the order of a deluxe pork loin dinner. Friday evening is going to be left open for the competitors to do their own thing for dinner per their recommendation at the winter inland. The bar of course will be open. Each morning it is our plan to have a light continental breakfast. Each afternoon after the racing we are going to offer free beer for a limited time. If I find a willing volunteer, I would like to have them video the days racing and then replay it in the evenings in the club for the competitors to be able to watch on our big screens in the bar.

I was advised to keep the regatta low key and low cost for our first regatta for the C's. I don't have a set price for the meal package yet but we are looking to try and it in at $15 for Saturday's dinner and  $25 for the three lunch package. We are also trying to find a supplier/donor for water dispensers for the regatta to go along with  the clean regatta concept. We are also looking to get boat owners from the yacht club to provide the spectators with rides to watch the racing. I hope this gives to a good idea for what we are going to do for the weekend.
