Huerth/Petersen Take Senior Title;

Biwer/Biwer Take Junior Title

What an event!
It really comes down to the racing. Eight races in great breeze and we have new champions. Smiles abounded as Commodore Peter Friend warmly welcomed new winners to the Inland circle of champions. Parents smiled, cried with sorrow at the graduation of their sailors, applauded the efforts of our sailors. All were grateful for the efforts of the Oshkosh Yacht Club and its fine, fine execution of another ILYA X Championship. The Inland membership is honored to return next year for the ILYA Champs in the adult classes. Hotel reservations are in already. Thank you, thank you to the membership of Oshkosh for all your work in making this event memorable for so many of us. Full composite picture of winners to come.

Senior Fleet
Will Huerth and Chapman Petersen counted no race worse than a 7th to claim the title with 29 points. It was flat boat sailing that won the title through the waves of Oshkosh.

Consistency is King and Biwers ruled the waters. For races that counted, Biwer and Marozza were never out of the top ten. Biwers were a decisive winner in this event.

Laser North Americans

 Erik Bowers is finished 10th and 3rd American (total 73 boats) in the full rigs. Malcolm Lamphere was fifth and 3rd American (total 162 boats) in radials.

470 Worlds

Watch this week as Annie Haeger and Briana Provancha begin competition midweek.

Finn Europeans

Gordon Lamphere 35th, first American, total 103 boats. No wind last day so results remain firm.

Hyannis 420 and MORE

If you want proof of what high school sailing has done for the Midwest, watch the next three weeks. This week's event features over 100 boats. Augie Dale WINS THE EVENT as skipper while last week he was at the top as a crew. Chicago sailor Alex Vasiliou with Geneva crew Mark Davies ended in third. Mark sails for a Chicago HS in the school season. Mark can drive and crew. Isabella Loosbrock is also in attendance with a Chicago YC crew. The Loosbrock sisters have been traveling the nation this summer crewing, skipping with their high school connections.

Monday on to National Team Race CJ Buckley with more Minnetonka (3 boat-fulls) of kids! Also looks like Buzzard's Bay Regatta might be the most well-Inland attended big 420 regatta when to the mix above, we add some (3 sailors) Nagawicka, Pine Lakers (1) with a Beulah (1) into the mix!

If you want to know what our Youth Development Committee has accomplished in 20 years - here is the proof. Hopefully Okoboji Champs will not be an aberration, due to the distance, but if our trend holds steady, one-third of our sailors at our ILYA Champs will be youth which we define as 25 and under.  The mission of the ILYA Youth Development Committee has been to keep our sailors active during high school and college; then to see them return as scow sailors in early adulthood. The real success is dependent on YOU and YOUR CLUB. Join us in providing access, support, mentoring and encouragement. If your sailing school has not established a path or need a visit for open discussion from other clubs, ask the ILYA to come and visit you in the Fall.
