(David Thoreson photo - the best all week will be from local photographer Thoreson who provides us with the beauty of sail so magnificently. --- the amateur photos are from the editor.)

Doesn't the future look bright? But, make no mistake, the senior fleet is FILLED to the brim with talent. The older fleet is full of potential champions. It will be a tough fight to the top for 36 most skilled sailors. The beauty of an Inland is the birth of a new champion. Each year's anticipation culminates with the crowning of a winner who will be remembered in our annals of history. The excitement is palpable! But more pervasive is the spirit of deep friendship and fun on shore.
Ninety-two sailors but more than 400 folks on land enjoying the magnificent water of Okoboji, IA.

The OYC is ready - spit polished, well-stocked, organized to a T under the capable guidance of regatta chair Brigid Wilkening and her co-partner Kirsty Thoreson. Okoboji has a long tradition with the Inland Lake Yachting Association which is evident as you walk in the door. They proudly display banners honoring their "legends" Jerry Huse and Boober Schneider.

Wedneday was a full day of registration, a practice race and competitors briefings. A few snafus along the way - Eckerts may be buying a new truck due to a breakdown but in IA so it was an easy rescue. Only one loud thud during the day - the sound of a boat falling off the trailer. A new boat at that! But instantaneously 40 people materialized at the bang for a quick replacing of the boat on trailer and down to the launch it went.

The practice race! Today it's for real.

As has become the tradition, the ILYA member lakes presented their burgees - and sailors --  as the crowd applauded each during the Opening Ceremony. From the smallest Mendota

to the largest Cedar Lake, WI, all are ready to set sail.

In Olympic fashion, host lake Okoboji presented its color last.

Many Okoboji sailors joined to play our National Anthem.

All in all, a most impressive evening to meet our sailors.

Chair Brigid Wilkening welcomes the guests.

ILYA representative David Porter encourages the sailors to enjoy this experience which is often the foundation of years_-long relationships.

PRO Chip Mann spoke to the senior sailors.

Mark Tesar met with the large Junior contingent. The seniors will sail in the same large Okoboji center each day while the juniors will choose Emersons Bay or sail to the north depending on wind conditions. PRO Tesar will notify the sailors each day.

The racing plan is four races today with a break for lunch after two; three on Friday and one on Saturday. There is a throwout after six. Good luck, sailors. Enjoy your stay at wonderful Okoboji.

North Lake MC Regatta
Hello fellow sailors,
Find the NOR for the 28th Annual MC Fall Classic at North Lake on our website. We look forward to again hosting this friendly yet competitive regatta on Sept 17&18. If you have attended in past years, you know it is a great regatta to sail at after finishing out the season on your own lake and pulling the boat. Tell a fellow sailor on your lake and bring them along.

For those who don't know yet what they are missing - we welcome you to try it out. We plan on fair weather and winds far in advance to provide the best races possible, have a great clubhouse with ample trailer parking, plenty of help to make launching easy, and delicious food and cold beverages once you get off the water.
Hope to see you then.

Steady Breezes,
Charles Luebke
