| 73 boats compete for title of X Champion
Thanks for photos from Martha Driessen
Volleyball competition began with the lake and colors of the event flying. Today was a stunning day with nice wind, warm winds and a welcoming regatta staff that set the tone for the event. Gull Lake, MN is repeating its reputation for an extravaganza extraordinaire. The picturesque clubhouse is the backdrop for all our anticipated excitement.
A practice race worked out the jitters of both the sailor and race committee. Thanks to Gull Lake for supplying two beautiful pontoons for signal boats and boats for many of our other positions on the course.
Parents relaxed as the children and race committee had a dry run mid-afternoon. The spacious grounds were a buzz with activity as families from IA, WI and IL rekindled friendships.
Parents and children gathered for the opening ceremonies featuring the GLYC vice commodore and ILYA Commodore PJ Friend. A Gull Lake member led the crowd in the national anthem.
Quite a site as all the sailors marched by home lake carrying burgees high.
PROs Chip Mann, Senior Fleet, and Mark Tesar, Junior Fleet, met with their sailors to discuss the planned eight races over three days. Thursday's forecast is for light winds but Friday and Saturday look to be more steady
The Thursday races begin with a warning sound at 9:30 for both fleets. New champions will be crowned who will join the ILYA record books. Watch daily for the results here
