X Championships - 107!
Juniors 59 and Seniors 48
What great news for the health of the fleet! Two hundred and fourteen sailors (with one last minute emergency and a withdrawal) marched onto the Pewaukee Yacht Club waterfront carrying homelake burgees. Parents, grandparents and onlookers enjoyed the commentary by AJ Schweda as each member lake was introduced with a brief history including the founding year. Several of our clubs were founded in the late 1800's so 125 years of history is quite a heritage of Inland families sailing together. Commodore Steve Schmidt, Andy Burdick, Dr. Tom Hodgson and PYC Commodore Bob Schieble all welcomed the crowd after an intro by chairpersons Kara Kaiser and Terri Isabell.

PROs Chip Mann and Mark Tesar spent the day outfitting boats, running a practice race and meeting with their teams and the sailors. We are set. The eight-race event will run Thursday, Friday and Saturday. All are welcome to come and watch the festivities.

A touching tribute to Executive Secretary Jim Smith received a tumultuous round of applause - but Smith was characteristically still working at the registration site and missed the accolade and recognition.

Thanks to all the registration staff and measurers Karen and Dave Schmidt for an organized, busy day.

Editor's favorite Lake Beulah team is always ready for fun - as are all the teams. Good luck to all
Mendota - ILYA's newest X fleet. Mendota returns after nearly four decades. William and Micah Hanson in the junior fleet and Oscar Anderson and Will Simonson in the senior fleet. Instructor Leslie Poole on right.
A Letter from the Commodore

Dear Members,

As you all know, I reported earlier that our long standing executive secretary, Jim Smith, was retiring at the end of this year.  I have received various inquiries about the job and nominations for the position from many of you.  I thank you all for your interest and we will continue to hold those names for consideration.  At present, we are working on refining the role of the executive secretary, so we can publish later this fall to begin our search in earnest for Jim's replacement(s).  We are also quite busy with a little regatta coming up August 19 -23 at Lake Geneva which we hope all of you will attend.  We will have more information to share with you after that and will be better able to answer your questions for those interested in the position.  Thank you all very much for your enthusiasm for our organization.

Pram Power
North Lake's 26th Annual Pram Power Regatta-Thurs, AUG 6
by Christine Janssen

Don't miss out, August 6th is 2 weeks away!  A day dedicated to making sure kids have the opportunity to put together the sailing skills they have been learning all summer.  It is geared to beginner sailors and those who do not sail many regattas.  The fleet is split up between 2 groups based on their age as of 8/6/15, Juniors (age 8 and under) and Seniors (age 9 and over).  Because the fleets sail at different times, there is an opportunity to have Jrs and Srs share boats.  Coaches from North Lake and the other represented sailing schools come and work together to assist kids when and where needed.

So what does the non sailing group do while one group is sailing?  CRAFTS.  This year is sure to be packed with great crafts.  We will have Shrinky Dinks, Hot Rock Coloring, a t-shirt craft (so don't forget a white or light colored or pillow case), make a bouncy ball and a boat with craft sticks.  These same activities are included in the non-sailor craft package which is a great option if your sailor has siblings that aren't sailing. How fun does that sound!  As in the past there will be a raffle with fun and exciting items.

What can we say about lunch!  Homemade Tacos, fruit and cookies.  We really encourage pre-buying the lunch so we can plan appropriately. Remember the non-sailor craft package includes their lunch.

Late fee registration begins after August 3, so register today!  ONLINE registration and payment link is available and encouraged and found on and on this link.

Monica Seeger is the registration coordinator and can be contacted at and

We are anxious to see you and your sailors. Feel free to share this with other lakes, we love seeing new faces and getting to meet new people.

Beulah Ready for Opti Friends

Sunday Registration, Monday - Tuesday Sailing
Welcome to all you experienced and Green parents. This is the event to attend. Beulah is a small enough lake to allow you to enjoy viewing from shore or boat. Launching is easy. Drop your boat on the way to Pewaukee or drop it on Saturday. Official registration is Sunday 3-7:00. There is no registration on Monday - officially. PRO Mark Prange is ready for the RWB fleet and Candace Porter with Rick Trester is ready for Green participants.

Coaches, inflatables will be rafted at the club but arrive on Sunday. Large motorboats will need to go to the public launch. Instructors, remember your radios for coaching the Green fleet. Lunches are free for instructors.

Still need housing? We have a few spots left. Contact Candaceporter@wi.rr.com.

It's a wild week with X and Opti Inlands but it is a way to extend your visit with best friends. See you there.
MCs - Here's a good one!
WI MC Champs

The inaugural event was a huge success last year on Cedar, with 54 boats, legendary MC fleet camaraderie, and some seriously competitive racing.  Delavan will keep it going this year by hosting the Wisconsin MCs on August 8-9 and they are working hard to make this a fun and easy regatta!  It is a weekend-only regatta, so no need to schedule time away from work.  There will be folks on hand Friday evening to help set up boats and you are welcome to stay for the famous DLYC fish fry.  With two ramps and a hoist, DLYC's large boatyard, and volunteers helping with in/out, this will be an easy, dry-sailed regatta.  And in fine Wisconsin tradition, there will be beer and brats after racing on Saturday.  Want to bring your family? It's perfect with a beach area, swimming, water trampoline, soccer, and a beautiful patio for relaxing onshore.  So come join fun! The NOR is posted and  is open.

Deadline Nears
July 24th is the cutoff for the $65 fee. $80 thereafter.

Zhik Lifejackets - PFDs checked tomorrow
WI State Law and ILYA SI's
Although the Coast Guard is reviewing the definition or requirements to be Coast Guard approved, Zhik PFD's do not presently meet the definition. This is a popular PFD in youth sailing but is NOT legal for participation in our events. Please resurrect your old PFD's, borrow one or purchase a new PFD prior to our busiest youth regatta season. All X and Opti boats and sailors' equipment is subject to measurement prior to the registration at the event.

The remaining Zhik apparel line is stylish, most suitable to our sport and marvelously made. It is the hottest selling equipment so enjoy. Zhik will be a sponsor of the ILYA Opti Championships so look for generous donations to the raffle and see their line of apparel from Stelluca, another sponsor of the Opti Champs.
Volunteer Now  - Thank you to the many who have already signed up for the multitude of jobs
ILYA Championships - Aug 19-23
The championship regatta is here before you know it. It takes an army of volunteers to man all the posts. We need crane operators, tractor and golf cart drivers, traffic control, Cantina servers and grillers for the children and volunteers, land and water shuttle drivers. All the tasks are an opportunity to visit with your sailing friends. No experience is necessary for most of the jobs. Knowledge of sailing is not a prerequisite. So bring your neighbor, your relative, your spouse. Offer to work the opposite shift from your sailing time. Free food provided and an identifying hat.

Click here to volunteer for any day, any shift. This regatta is a partnership between the ILYA and Geneva. Be a partner and bring a partner. It will be fun. There are only a few spots left. Thank you, thank you. The Craig Parker Cantina is still in need of volunteers. Craig drives from Cedar, IN and gives his time and a great deal of the food as a donation to make the parking lot tasty. join him
