To the strains of the Olympic theme, No Tears sailors paraded to the trophy presentation. Olympians Sally Barkow and John Ruf welcomed the sailors via video. The Gary Jobson report on our US Olympic Sailing team ran all day. After a day of light air sailing, flags waving, the sailors entered the trophy area to the applause of parents and instructors. Pewaukee sailors JP Friend and Dave Winquist took home the gold in the Senior and Junior No Tears fleets. Friend (on the right) raced to a 1-1 to beat a tough Nagawicka sailor Henry Chapman. The top five was completed with a happy Nora Kiernan, Caroline Skotarzak and John Berg.

Bring your Burgee
Tomorrow at 9:00 X boat teams from WI, IL, MN and IA assemble to place two more names in the record books. It is not too late to come. Late registrants are always welcome. Once you see the hospitality the town of Oshkosh extends to sailors, the generosity of the OYC members, you will be happy you came.
Remember, there is an Olympic theme for the opening ceremonies tomorrow night. See you tomorrow at registration and measurement.

Attention, sailing school instructors - Tomorrow at 5:00 we will meet at Millers Bay. The RC from both fleets will be present. This is the meeting where YOU tell us your concerns about youth sailing. The Winter Inland topics are often determined by your comments at this meeting. See you tomorrow.

OKOBOJI WANTS YOU (NOT INVASIVE SPECIES)
Now who do you think that is?
Executive Secretary Smith had to ask regatta chair Peterson who qualified as the invasive species. Would that be all the flatlanders, cheeseheads or plain old gophers? But Iowa lakes are most fortunate to be in a position to protect themselves. The Iowa Great Lakes does not have Eurasian watermilfoil or zebra mussels. Okoboji asks the cooperation of all Inland sailors to be sure their boats and equipment brought to Okoboji have been thoroughly cleaned before being launched at Okoboji.   Okoboji has a very active volunteer and Department of Natural Resources Aquatic Invasive Species inspection program at all boat ramps. The fine for transporting AIS on Iowa highways is $500.   The Okoboji Yacht Club will offer power washing for all sail and powerboats at the launch site.

For Fun
Check out the Okoboji website for all the fun activities. There is children's theatre, waterpark, museum, a Corvette show on August 10th (Fredmans and Robles will be there). This is a colorful, clever website that displays the excitement of the area. Take your family and make this a regatta your children place in their memory banks.
