C Invite and Melges 17 fleets visit Winnebago

  C Invite

The C's have traveled to Fond du Lac for the first time ever. What a time FDL has planned. The fleet started off well with one race in morning. PRO Russ Ackley started a 2nd race in PM but abandoned when the wind died.

Fond du Lac is a great venue. Winnebago had NO motorboat waves!  The view is beautiful - lighthouse in the harbor and the entire vista of Winnebago ahead of you.

Races scheduled for 9:30 this morning. A highlight was lunch was served on the water. FDL provided a barge with a picnic table and portable toilet. Now that's a first for us.

Racing starts today!

sailtv Sail TV (www.sail.tv) is expanding  into North America.  They are the world's leading 24/7 sailing TV channel with over 400 hours of live sailing coverage in 2010, from major events like the World Match Race Tour and Kiel Week.

Besides the web-based player, which appears on dozens of sailing websites worldwide, Sail TV can also be seen on regular television sets using a small piece of hardware called a Roku Box (www.roku.com.)  The Sail TV channel is free for all Roku Box owners, and this summer, Sail TV would like to give yacht clubs a chance to demo the Roku Box at their bar or restaurant for free.  All it takes is a TV, an internet connection, and a quick setup of the Roku Box.  After 3 months, clubs can return the box to Sail TV's office and incur no charge, or can keep it for a one-time fee of $90.

This offer is good for all of the ILYA clubs.  Fill out and return the attached form and have streaming sailing on your bar TV this summer.  Please feel free to forward this email to any yacht clubs.

 White Bear Opti Inland Champs
There is some discussion about the water level on White Bear. The report of any problem is ABSOLUTELY FALSE! The A's are sailing regularly with a reported TWO women's crews! All is good. Come on up!
A note from the editor: there is a safety check performed at all ILYA Opti regattas. This is to assure the safety of your sailors ---length of the painter for towing in an emergency, flotation bag integrity, mainsheet bridle length - all to assure safety in times of rescue. Please remember the Opti is a ONE DESIGN class. It is most rare that a substitute of equipment will meet the class rules. The ILYA took a stand many years ago against clone boats - which have not been a problem for us. But changing out pulleys to achieve more purchase, re-cutting sails or any modification is against the class rules. We will in the most gentle of ways help you maintain the boat's legality.
X Treme - Always a HIT! Not to be missed - relaxed Monday start time.
