CraWho is Sailing?
mc skippers meeting
No to the Es. No to the 420s - in fact they had a contest for the best pinnie (more on that later). But Al Haeger (Beulah) is the champion of the day for miles around. Thirty-one MCs got in one race yesterday. And. . .  the old guys have it! Five Grandmasters are in the top ten.
1 - Al Haeger, Grandmaster
2 - Dan Fink, Master
3 - David Koch, Grandmaster
4 - Bill Best, Grandmaster
5 - Scott Hetzler
6 - Craig Thompson, Grandmaster
7 - Steve Boemer
8 - Rick Trester, Grandmaster
9 - Erich Stabelfeldt
10 - Colin Rowe - JUNIOR
The picture above is the skippers meeting for the MCs. The editor wondered how the PRO who is also the photographer, Larry Kmiecik, got the picture. It is in position to think he ran a GO PRO up the flagpole but then ---- DRONE --- crossed the editor's mind. This all amounts to HIRE LARRY FOR FUN!
On Geneva, it amounted to young sailors making their own fun. Click here for ridiculous hulahooping. The young sailors wear pinnies over their PFD's for identification but also to protect the sailors from snagging PFD's on the many lines. So a contest was born. No final results but thanks to Mary Claire Kiernan for sporting the ILYA logo on the back of her pinnie with her homelake on the front. Her dad Mark Kiernan began this traditional several years ago when his daughter and others began sailing outside the Inland area. ILYA competitors at Ida Lewis, Leiter, 420 Nationals, Buzzards Bay, CISA and Youth Champs have sported our colors proudly. These youth are our future but, more importantly, yours. If your club is not participating in high school sailing, if you are not sending your youth to the Invites and Champs, please consider an initiative to encourage your youth. They are your club in ten years.
USODA Nationals
Henry Chapman is holding firm in 9th overall. Check the list for our many, many sailors at Gross Pointe, MI for the event. Aidan Boylan of Calhoun was among those competing in the Teamracing portion of this event. Congrats to Aidan who competed with the Southern Yacht Club team.
Women's International Matchracing Series - New York
Roble lost two matches yesterday and sits in third. The marks are essentially erased when the next rounds begin. Roble will move on to the next round.

Xtreme - always fun at the Waters

Xtreme  Still time to come
It is an easy drive to Oshkosh and it is worth the fun. The Monday night event keeps the sailors happy all night gambling for prizes and the parents enjoy the view from the decks, the libations at the dinner and the on the water experience will prepare you for the following week's ILYA Champs. Racing begins in the morning this year on Monday. The extra practice will pay off for Inlands. And remember the lunches come in adult sumptuous salad form and plentiful sailor form. Bring your little ones to play in the park at the launch site or across the street at the small zoo with a train.
