Dick Rose on the New Rules

The ILYA Bilge Pullers again sponsors our annual organizing event. The Winter Inland is not to be missed this year as we inherit a new set of racing rules. Our keynote speaker, Dick Rose, returns to teach us the new changes.

Your fleet committee will meet on Saturday to review RC recommendations, scantling changes, future regatta sites and any other promotion ideas to improve the growth of your fleet. The ILYA Board of Directors will meet on Sunday to discuss or act on Saturday's work. The annual ILYA Awards will be presented with the late afternoon cocktail event. Registration is mandatory to assist with the Chenequa Country Club planning.

The ILYA is always looking to the future. Join the discussion about the look, mission, "feel" of the Big Inland in two years. We are open to any suggestions and know how its success impacts all our clubs.

For iPHone, iPad - it's with you all the time

Both ISAF and US Sailing have an app for the 2013-1026 RRS. ISAF version is $.99 and US Sailing's version is $4.99 but includes Dave Perry interpretations or comments. It is reported there are RC additions to the US Sailing version. Just go to the App Store. Both are readily available there.

The Dave Perry addition is reportedly an added low cost but is worth it, according to one of our readers.

Full Throttle Wins Key West Boat of the Year

First in Melges 24 - Key West

Brian Porter (Lake Geneva, WI) and his team on Full Throttle duked it out
with Alec Cutler (Pembroke, Bermuda) and the Hedgehog crew from beginning  to end in Melges 24 class, second-largest of the regatta with 23 boats.  Full Throttle won Race 9 to build a cushion then placed third in Race 10 to  seal a three-point victory over hedgehog, which got the gun in the final

"It couldn't have been a nicer week. We had great wind, great competition
and great race committee work," said Porter, who has now captured Melges 24  class three times at Key West. Andy Burdick served as tactician and did a
superb job despite fighting through terrible illness on Thursday and  Friday. Sam Rogers trimmed the spinnaker while Matt Woodworth worked the
bow aboard Full Throttle, which earned the ultimate honor of Quantum Boat
of the Week.

"I really have to credit my crew. My team is really exceptional. As a
group, we really work well together," Porter said. "Our biggest edge was
downwind sailing. We had really good speed going downwind and I think that
was a big difference."   ----- from Scuttlebutt, Sunday January 27

In the Laser class, Erik Bowers (Minnetonka) competes. Below is Gordon Lamphere (Lake Geneva) who sits in tenth which is a qualifying position for the medal round in the Finn class. Watch the scores to see if he stays there.
