Promotion & Communication - Saturday, Feb 11 at 9am

The ILYA Promotion and Communication Committee will kick off Saturday's Winter Inland line up beginning at 9am. All are welcome to participate in an open discussion!

  • Fleets - Make sure your class committee is in attendance to share ideas about what works in your fleet, and provide suggestions for how to increase attendance
  • Clubs - Interested in hosting a regatta? Rick Kotovic, co-chair of this year's Big Inland on Minnetonka will share some of their successes, lessons learned and will answer your questions about running a big regatta.

We'd also like to hear from you prior to the Winter Inland by completing a short survey (3 questions) to let us know how the Promotion Committee can do more.

Miami Olympic Classes Regatta - WOW

Sally Barkow comes away with a Bronze Medal in a tough, tough competition. She is the top American and what a set of races it was! With conflict between the finish judges and a delayed call, Sally moved from the finals to the Petit final for a potential, and then gained, podium position. Steph Roble and Maggie Shea were third Americans ahead of Genny Tulloch's team. American Anna Tunnicliffe took overall 5th.

But here is the great news - two of our youth made it to the medal round. What a promising event for Anne Haeger with a race win and a second in the medal round of the Women's 470! Watch out for this young sailor after college. And. . . . Gordon Lamphere was third American in the Finn class also making the medal round for the first time. Gordy moves onto the US Alphagraphics Development Team with this finish - and joins Annie on the team. New stars from the Inland are born!

John Ruf was second American in the 2.4R competition and will not be traveling to the Olympics in 2012. The selection was the sum of two regattas where he was top American in one and second in the MOCR.

Lara Dallman-Weiss competed in the women's 470s. Erik Bowers and Conner Corgard competed in the Lasers with placement in the Silver fleet toward week's end.

 Young and Old Alike
We have requests for housing for the Winter Inland. If you live near Chenequa, will you offer up a Friday and Saturday night bedroom. We have encouraged the youth from Minnesota to attend so open your house up to old and new friends - Okauchee/Pine/Pewaukee - are you out there? Food, fun, frivolity may be involved

A group of adults from Minnesota and Indiana are seeking housing. No food and absolutely no fun involved - just friendship and a place to flop. North/Nagawicka/Beaver - can you assist? The Winter Inland will offer a Fish Fry on Friday Night and a Saturday night with Dave Perry at a local restaurant is on the books so it is simply housing.

Contact candaceporter@wi.rr.com to offer housing. Give number of beds and adult/youth preference.

 BEULAH Submits an Entry

Pine, Beulah and Delavan have completed their squares. The squares will be on display at the Winter Inland. The squares will be sewn together professionally to serve as a fundraiser for Delavan this year but for the next annual X host. The raffle winner will take the quilt home for a year. ---- Every club is a winner! Thanks to the Beulah Greeson Family for designing the square - complete with battens! Mike designed and Dawn, an accomplished quilter, implemented.

US SAILING had a cocktail party for the volunteers working this year's event.  John Hanson and Terry Bischoff were invited to attend. There were many old friends in attendance. But, it was more than just a stand around, drinking and eating affair.  Dean Brenner took the podium, and thanked all the judges, umpires, RC personnel, and other volunteers.  Then he shifted gears, and offered thanks to a  few PROs from the past:  Jack King, Bill Smoak, and Bischoff.  They were signally brought front stage, and awarded a very nice appreciation plaque, as well as a few other clothing goodies.  Dean was kind enough to mention the expertise and dedication of our ILYA-based Team.  Bischoff reports, "That of course goes without saying, as we always got the tough jobs, and the the Medal Races, which some other teams coveted.  Brenner was generous in exaggerating my tenure, but I think I was there in 1995 as a markset operator."
