 Sailing Maker Sailing Simulator
Get a feel for the water on a virtual sailboat ride. A qualified instructor will offer you a chance to experience how a boat reacts to wind and waves and teach you how to use the tiller, without getting wet.  Designed and built by a nuclear physicist, the simulator recreates the actual movement of a boat under sail. It's a unique training platform for sailors of all abilities-whether you're a new boater who wants to learn how to sail and or an experienced sailor who wants to practice under different sailing conditions. The simulator was built with youth in mind so bring the kids and have them experience sailing first hand.  Click Here

The ILYA Promotion and Communication Committee will kick off Saturday's Winter Inland line up beginning at 9am. All are welcome to participate in an open discussion!

  • Fleets - Make sure your class committee is in attendance to share ideas about what works in your fleet, and provide suggestions for how to increase attendance
  • Clubs - Interested in hosting a regatta? Rick Kotovic, co-chair of this year's Big Inland on Minnetonka will share some of their successes, lessons learned and will answer your questions about running a big regatta.

We'd also like to hear from you prior to the Winter Inland by completing a short survey (3 questions) to let us know how the Promotion Committee can do more.

Winter Inland - Chenequa Country Club - Feb 10-12.

Program Directors and Parents - Friday, Feb 10 at 3:00

The new 420 committee invites you to attend the early afternoon session to hear Dave Perry assist us with our newest sanctioned fleet. If your club is considering a purchase, already owns boats and wants to support the new program or simply needs to hear how to retain your sailors after the X boat, this two-hour session is for you.

The traditional fleet meetings will follow from 5-8:00 with a focus this year on developing programs which keep our clubs healthy. The new 420 committee, under the guidance of Margaret Hollister, will select its committee, approve class bylaws and develop its action plan.

Website Ease - come see Club Express
Geneva, Cedar, Beulah, Powers, Delavan, Labelle
We are all customers of Club Express. Those clubs who want to manage their websites with volunteers- this is it! With ease of multi-user management, membership tools to create current demographics, all club emailings, the ability to open an online store, social event reservations - you can do it all easily with Club Express. The price is right - after an initial setup (which provides support for the learning process), it is cents per member per month. It fits our yacht club budgets for those who are willing to use volunteers. Look at LaBelle and Delavan who seem to spend the most time maintaining a goodlooking site. Then compare to Beulah who does not spend much time but uses the site for social event announcements and sailing news about our members. This tool can do it all. Look for Club Express at the Winter Inland. Steve Raftis will have time to consult with your club individually about an easy way to manage your website.
Come talk issues for your club at the Winter Inland
mccarthy  Glenn McCarty-The David Agency Insurance
Life long sailor Glenn McCarthy will be present at the ILYA Winter Inland to answer club and school insurance questions at his booth for the David Agency insurance, and during the club roundtable discussion. Current Commodore of the Lake Michigan Sail Racing Federation, Glenn has a vast resume of sailing experience, and is a leader in US SAILING's safety initiatives.

Glenn has been a specialist in yacht club insurance for 17 years, insuring clubs for comprehensive coverage, regatta liability, and Directors and Officers.

Glenn is currently the commodore of LMSRF, our sister yacht racing association to the east and south. His family is just like ours with a long tradition of Midwest sailing - and long experience in the sailing insurance business.

This is a most important qualifier for some of the participating nations.

Laser - Erik Bowers and Connor Corgard (Minnetonka)

Finn - Gordon Lamphere (Geneva)

 Young and Old Alike
We have requests for housing for the Winter Inland. If you live near Chenequa, will you offer up a Friday and Saturday night bedroom. We have encouraged the youth from Minnesota to attend so open your house up to old and new friends - Okauchee/Pine/Pewaukee - are you out there? Food, fun, frivolity may be involved

A group of adults from Minnesota and Indiana are seeking housing. No food and absolutely no fun involved - just friendship and a place to flop. North/Nagawicka/Beaver - can you assist? The Winter Inland will offer a Fish Fry on Friday Night and a Saturday night with Dave Perry at a local restaurant is on the books so it is simply housing.

Contact candaceporter@wi.rr.com to offer housing. Give number of beds and adult/youth preference.
