This will require a reservation, which will be made available on the registration form, which will follow in the Fall Winter edition of Scow Slants due out in January. ATTENTION - No blue jeans are permitted on Friday night; this includes our youth. Sorry, Chenequa policy for the Friday Night Fish Fry.

Youth sailors - WE WANT YOU! Ask your parents for a half day off. 3:00 at Pine. Come express your opinions, help us make good decisions for your fleet and clubs, listen to Dave Perry.

The new 420 committee invites you to attend the early afternoon session to hear Dave Perry assist us with our newest sanctioned fleet. If your club is considering a purchase, already owns boats and wants to support the new program or simply needs to hear how to retain your sailors after the X boat, this two-hour session is for you.

The traditional fleet meetings will follow from 5-8:00 with a focus this year on developing programs which keep our clubs healthy. The new 420 committee, under the guidance of Margaret Hollister, will select its committee, approve class bylaws and develop its action plan.

Winter Inland - Chenequa Country Club - Feb 10-12.

Youth Meeting Firms Up 420 Southern Summer Series

A 420 southern circuit has been established for our 420 sailors. This is in addition to a most busy HS Spring circuit and the northern TCYS opportunities which are included on the first draft calendar below in another article.

  • May 12+13 @ Pewaukee - a HS event, May Madness, open to all MISSA high schools
  • May 26+27 @ Okauchee for training Seminar. Watch as details develop. The Saturday session will be for our coaches of local lakes to learn techniques for instructing 420s. Sunday will be the sailors' clinic. We hope to have boats from Pewaukee, Geneva, Beulah, Delavan and Oconomowoc there so we have all we need for any interested sailor or local club.
  • June 25 @ Beulah. This will begin our mini-regatta series. These events are scheduled to be held in conjunction with existing events so the infrastructure needs are economized. Thanks to our local regatta organizers for adding the 420s onto their day. The Beulah Opti regatta is a huge hit for the younger crowd. We are planning to add the 420s on another piece of property but all food and awards will be served from the club.
  • Jun 26+27 @ Nagawicka - tentative. This will be held in conjunctin with TRAP but on nearby Nagawicka. While your senior sailor is on Pine, drop off your junior sailor at Nagawicka for an introductory session on the 420. The most successful Northern Circuit has JV high school events. This is the "get your feet wet" (and, oh so much more) event for your middle schooler. You will not have to bring your crew but may. We will rotate sailors to give every middle schooler the opportunity. Then on Thursday of TRAP (everyone takes Wednesday off for Qdoba Day) drop off your senior sailor who will add trap and spinnaker to the boats for 420 sailing. This will require a great deal of manpower to get the 420s from Beulah to Nagawicka but this will give our sailors a busy week of sailing and fun.
  • Jul 10+11 @ Geneva. The existing Dinghyfest will entice you all to stay a few more days on Geneva for X, Opti, Laser and 420 sailing
  • Jul 23 @ Cedar. No Tears is for the younger crowd. 420 sailing will be held for older sailors.
  • Aug 9 @ Oshkosh - tentative date. While the beginning Opti sailors are at Pram Power on North, plan a great trip to picturesque Winnebago. This is still in the development stages so look for more info at the Winter Inland.
  • Aug 17-19 420 Youths/ILYA at Mendota. Our 420s will compete on Mendota along with the A's and MC's. Our youth will be stationed at Burrows Park which has been the site of former Youth Champs for the ILYA. We need volunteers for lunch duty, shore and water detail. Prepare to sign up with the 420 committee at the Winter Inland.

Please contact Ed Eckert or Margaret Hollister for more details or to offer suggestions or volunteer to assist with this new class.

Jimmy Cornell to make a rare U.S. appearance at the 2012 Progressive® Insurance Strictly Sail Chicago® Show.
An accomplished sailor and successful author, Jimmy Cornell has sailed 200,000 miles in all oceans of the world- including three circumnavigations and voyages to Antarctica, Alaska and Spitsbergen. Thousands of sailors have fulfilled their dream of blue water cruising with the help of Jimmy Cornell's books, among them the bestseller World Cruising Routes. With 150,000 copies sold to date, it is one of the best-selling nautical publications in the world. Most of Jimmy Cornell's books have been translated into several languages.

As the founder of the highly successful ARC transatlantic rally, Jimmy Cornell is credited with devising the offshore cruising rally concept. Now in its 25th year, the ARC continues to be the largest, and most popular, transocean event in the world. Until his retirement in 2000, Jimmy Cornell had organized 24 transatlantic rallies, five round-the-world rallies and one round-the-world race, with over 3,000 boats and 15,000 sailors having participated in his sailing events. Jimmy Cornell's website, www.noonsite.com, launched in 2000, is the main source of practical information for cruising sailors on the internet and attracts over one million visitors per month.

Fluent in six languages, Jimmy Cornell holds lectures and cruising seminars at yacht clubs and international boat shows.

Enjoy your choice of days with Jimmy Cornell at the show. Jimmy is offering his very popular Long Distance Cruising Seminar on both Friday January 27 and on Sunday January 29, 2012.

 Sailing Maker Sailing Simulator
Get a feel for the water on a virtual sailboat ride. A qualified instructor will offer you a chance to experience how a boat reacts to wind and waves and teach you how to use the tiller, without getting wet.  Designed and built by a nuclear physicist, the simulator recreates the actual movement of a boat under sail. It's a unique training platform for sailors of all abilities-whether you're a new boater who wants to learn how to sail and or an experienced sailor who wants to practice under different sailing conditions. The simulator was built with youth in mind so bring the kids and have them experience sailing first hand.  Click Here
