Jimmy Cornell to make a rare U.S. appearance at the 2012 Progressive® Insurance Strictly Sail Chicago® Show.
An accomplished sailor and successful author, Jimmy Cornell has sailed 200,000 miles in all oceans of the world- including three circumnavigations and voyages to Antarctica, Alaska and Spitsbergen. Thousands of sailors have fulfilled their dream of blue water cruising with the help of Jimmy Cornell's books, among them the bestseller World Cruising Routes. With 150,000 copies sold to date, it is one of the best-selling nautical publications in the world. Most of Jimmy Cornell's books have been translated into several languages.
As the founder of the highly successful ARC transatlantic rally, Jimmy Cornell is credited with devising the offshore cruising rally concept. Now in its 25th year, the ARC continues to be the largest, and most popular, transocean event in the world. Until his retirement in 2000, Jimmy Cornell had organized 24 transatlantic rallies, five round-the-world rallies and one round-the-world race, with over 3,000 boats and 15,000 sailors having participated in his sailing events. Jimmy Cornell's website, www.noonsite.com, launched in 2000, is the main source of practical information for cruising sailors on the internet and attracts over one million visitors per month.
Fluent in six languages, Jimmy Cornell holds lectures and cruising seminars at yacht clubs and international boat shows.

Sailing Maker Sailing Simulator
Get a feel for the water on a virtual sailboat ride. A qualified instructor will offer you a chance to experience how a boat reacts to wind and waves and teach you how to use the tiller, without getting wet. Designed and built by a nuclear physicist, the simulator recreates the actual movement of a boat under sail. It's a unique training platform for sailors of all abilities-whether you're a new boater who wants to learn how to sail and or an experienced sailor who wants to practice under different sailing conditions. The simulator was built with youth in mind so bring the kids and have them experience sailing first hand. Click Here

|Mendota - Here we come!
2012 ILYA Annual Championship to cover two weekends at Mendota
An innovative schedule will enhance the return of the ILYA Annual Championship Regatta to Lake Mendota in Madison, Wisconsin. Six fleets will attend the event, three on each weekend. Up first are the Es, Cs, and I-20s, registering at Governor Nelson State Park on Thursday, August 9, and racing Friday through Sunday, August 10-12. The second weekend is reserved for classes A and MC, registering at Nelson Park on Thursday, August 16, and racing Friday through Sunday, August 17-19. For the first time ever, a junior fleet will join the event, this time with the newly-sanctioned Club 420 fleet. For logistical reasons, the 420s will register and sail out of Burrows Park. The adult fleets will moor at Nelson Park, mostly in the water on moorings brought by the sailors. Dry sailing will be available, but it will be limited by the logistics of the parking and launching facilities.
A special evening of heavy hors d'oeuvres and libation awaits the fleets at the extraordinary Pyle Center on the Fridays of each weekend. Saturday nights will be open season on Madison's numerous dining and fun establishments. Regatta chairpersons will advise participants where to go to most likely meet their competitors for and after dinner. Post race fun awards are planned at headquarters for the adult fleet, and the juniors are welcome to join in the fun.
As most racing will be scheduled back-to-back (to back), on-the-water lunches may be pre-ordered for your crew and supporters. In addition, a headquarters food and beverage stand will be open at the most opportune times.
Watch for more Annual Regatta news in ILYA ScowLines, at www.ILYA.org, and in the spring/summer issue of Scow Slants.
For accommodations, we recommend one of the six west side hotels of the North Central Group, totalling 180 rooms. Also reserved are 65 rooms at the Edgewater Hotel for those who want to stay downtown. Sailors and guests need to call the hotels direct and reference the 2012 ILYA Champs to get their special rate. All reservations need to be made by July 10.

|Here's to Delavan for another lasting idea!
Delavan Lake Yacht Club invites all Inland Lakes Yachting Association Member Clubs with X Fleets in 2012 to participate in the creation of the ILYA X Inland Regatta Quilt. Each Club is invited to make a quilt Square and supply it to Laurie Schroeder in Delavan for quilt completion.
Each Club Square will represent the Club's X Fleet and/or the contributing Club.On the back of the quilt will be cloth strips to memorialize the club raffle winners in successive years.
Details: Square SIze: Begin with a 14'x14" block, leaving a 1" seam allowance on all four sides. Therefore, each Square should be designed within a 12"x12" area.
Material: Moderately dense woven are best such as cottons. Avoid knits, burlap, Appliqued, Embroidered, or Quilted will be appropriate.
ILYA Quilt - "The Deed of Trust"
The completed X Inland Regatta Quilt will be on display at the Delavan Lake Yacht Club until July 28, 2012. Raffle tickets will be sold to determine the home of the quilt for remaining weeks prior to the 2013 ILYA regatta (currently scheduled for Oshkosh). Two weeks before the next X Inland Regatta the quilt will be delivered to the Regatta Host Club, where it will be available for showing and to raffle it off for the remaining year to the next winning club. Two weeks prior to the 2014 ILYA X regatta, and each successive annual regatta, the quilt will be delivered from the current winning club to the next ILYA X Inland Host Club for a repeat of the annual cycle. Proceeds of the raffle go to defray the cost of the host regatta.
The raffle drawing will be at the final social event of the X Inland Regatta prior to the trophy presentation. The winning ticket owner's ILYA Club affiliation will determine which ILYA Club will have the honor of displaying the quilt. If the winning ticket owner is not affiliated with an ILYA club, the owner must select an ILYA Club with an X Fleet to display the quilt for the following year. The actual quilt transfer will occur at the final trophy presentation of that year's X Inland Regatta.
In the event that the quilt is retired from active service (such as retirement of the X Fleet, or retirement of the regatta event) as defined by the ILYA Board of Directors, it will be auctioned off to the highest bidder, and proceeds will be used to fund youth sailing activities. In the event of the dissolution or merging of the ILYA prior to the next year's X Inland Regatta, and no succeeding X Fleet activity, the quilt will be returned to the Delavan Lake Yacht Club.
Contact Please send your Quilt Contact person for your club's contribution to email@example.com or call Richard Beers, 262-725-1424.
The deadline for each club's submission of finalized quilt square is April 1, 2012.
