What do sailing moms do in the winter?
moms skiing
ILYA on the slopes     by Robin Dale

They rub shoulders with Alpine Olympic Gold Medalist Ted Ligety!  In the winter months, ILYA moms (and dads) stay busy as many of our ILYA youth sailors switch from competing on  the lake to racing on the snow.  On Thanksgiving Day, sailing moms Robin Dale and Emily Cox ran into this current US Ski Team member at Copper Mountain, Colorado as their kids trained on the same run. Pewaukee's own Copper Mountain ski patroller, Jamie Baker, helped keep everyone safe.  Over the last few weeks, young ILYA racers were spotted out west getting ready for the winter race season. Competing on the water in the summer and training on the snow in November were Minnetonka's Anders and Annika Ekholm, Tommy Garber;  White Bear's Eddie and Kate Cox; Geneva's Hans Melges, Harry Melges IV, Josh and Kyle Navin; Pewaukee's Augie Dale, Cade Dries, Clair and Joey Feichtmeier, JP and Lizzy Friend, Haley Thomas; and checking in from college in Denver was former high school ski racer and current LaBelle sailor Stevie Johnson.  Fast skiing to all over the winter months!  (Apologies if there were any racers missed!)
