THREE, yes, THREE ILYA Sailors are Nominees for Rolex Sailor of Year
rOLEX tROPHY Precedent-setting YEAR for ILYA after Brian Porter Wins Award in 2013
Vincent Porter, Annie Haeger, Steph Roble --- count them! And all at under 30 years of age! The ILYA takes great pride enjoying our heroes. Vincent was named based on his A scow and E scow concurrent titles at one regatta. Annie Haeger is recognized for her consistent international acclaim in the Women's 470 as part of a 2016 Olympic campaign. Steph Roble had quite a year as a helmsman and crew. She won the US Sailing Women's Matchracing as helmsman and then as crew on the Etchells World Team. Both Haeger and Roble are ranked above fourth IN THE WORLD in their respective classes. Vincent is distinguished as the only ILYA sailor to win the A and E titles in the same time period.

All three were collegiate All-Americans, sailed out east in college in singlehanded, doublehanded and team racing formats and hail from within 25 miles of each other. Roble and Haeger are from ILYA member club, Lake Beulah; Porter from Lake Geneva. Porter will sail the ILYA Championships at Geneva (along with dad, uncle and cousins in E, Melges 17 and A fleets), Roble is a tentative participant (with dad and mom on RC) and Annie is uncommitted at this time (but look for her dad, brother, cousin in the C fleet and her mom on RC). Look for them as part of our featured Heroes and Legends at our August event. The most heartfelt congratulations to our three accomplished young sailors.

Paul Reilly, Andy Burdick and Joe Kutschenreuter rounded out the top ten
Recognized for the youngest crew, Luca Marban in orange, helm Elizabeth Harned also had Vincent Porter and Ollie Luebker.
Brian Henke enjoys the winter months in a summer climate sailing his Melges 20. this fleet has the right idea - a winter circuit of monthly regattas. The crowd has become a cohesive group of friends with consistent race committee serving the fleet.
Also perhaps seen in the crowd was Justin Hood. It's a wild time for all our sailors.
Merry Christmas and Sail ON!
Support our many vendors
It's always a time to recall all our great friends who also serve us as vendors. Order boats, photos, sailing gear, sails. The sailing industry is a closeknit group of enthusiasts who work hard all year for our enjoyment. Consider a call this week to your favorite supplier for that last minute Christmas gift. Women, you can NEVER go wrong with a sailing gift. Men, don't be surprised at all the bags, jewelry or other sail artwork your special crew might like.

SCA has ignited an interest in offshore sailing unparalleled. CNN covered the women with a video linked here. Photo contests, blogs, giveaways, shipwrecks - it's all a part of the Volvo.
