Thawing out is good......!  Scow sailors were down south this past weekend and one of them won the championship.! Jeff  Ecklund took home the gold  with a 1-1-1-1 but there are two more events in this Miami series.  The fleet has monthly events planned throughout the winter months.  Here is a list of scow sailors present....pretty good representation while those of us up north watched our lakes turn to ice this weekend.

SIX CLUBS  FLY BURGEES FOR COLLEGIATE NATIONALS
 flagssix

GENEVA, LABELLE, WHITE BEAR, BEULAH, PINE AND CEDAR
Plan to give the UW Sailing Team and the Midwest college scene a Christmas present. And don't forget your tax deductible gift by yearend. Six clubs have donated $500 or more to be the first to earn the right to fly burgees during the 2010 Collegiate Nationals.

These clubs found a member to spearhead the drive to collect individual donations in the name of their respective clubs. Many more have started the process. If your club is not among those "flying" a burgee yet, take the lead and gather support for the opportunity to show our Inland pride. Look for the Inland to be present in a large manner - Race Committee, the ILYA Bilge Puller trailer for supplies, parents assisting behind the scenes -- AND OUR SAILORS. The collegiate contingent grows every year. Support our sailors and show the coasts our Midwest hospitality which takes a monumental effort on the part of the UW sailing team.
C BOATERS - NOTE DATE FOR INVITE
July presents us with five weekends this next season. This allows the WYA X and C Invite to both exist without the usual conflict. So enjoy the C Invite at Beulah July 16-18 and then take your favorite X boater to Oconomowoc July 24-25 the following weekend. The ILYA X is hosted by Pewaukee July 28-31.
ISAF MAKES CORRECTIONS TO 09-12 RULEBOOK
Dick Rose Interprets Amendments Made to the Racing Rules of Sailing for 2009-1012
As a result of actions taken by the ISAF Racing Rules Committee and theISAF Council during the 2009 ISAF Annual Conference, several changes in The Racing Rules of Sailing for 2009-2012 will take effect on Jan. 1, 2010... Dick Rose, one of US SAILING's delegates to the ISAF Racing Rules Committee, said of these changes, "With one exception, these are not major changes. They primarily effect team and match racing, as well as some events in which the display of advertising is an issue. The change in the definition of Party is the one exception. It legitimizes a useful new tool that will enable improvement and simplification of the hearing of requests for redress. Recreation racers will almost never encounter a situation in which one of these changes would effect how they sail."

WINTER INLAND
 Note changes to schedule
Please note that the winter meeting of the ILYA Board of Directors will be held in conjunction with the Winter Inland, Sunday, February 14, at Geneva Ridge Resort, Lake Geneva, Wisconsin, beginning at 8:30 a.m. Those of you who are familiar with the Lake Geneva area will understand that the Geneva Ridge Resort, formerly Interlaken, is close to Williams Bay, Wisconsin on Highway 50. The Resort has had a multi-million dollar makeover, and you will find the rooms and facilities to be top-notch.

The 2010 Winter Inland will be an abbreviated event, with no official activities on Friday, other than a welcoming of participants at the Resort Bar on Friday evening. Official Winter Inland meetings begin Saturday morning, Feb. 13. Schedules of meetings will be published via Scow Slants and ScowLines.
