    MORE NEWS for our sailors
    Announced Yesterday
Two ILYA women have received grants from the Women's Sports Foundation for travel and training expenses. Not since 2010 have sailors run in the circle. Team Haeger/Provancha and Team Epic (Steph Roble) have received money to continue training on an international level. "In partnership with Gatorade, 19 individuals and seven teams each received financial support ranging from $2,500 to $6,000 to help provide financial fuel to future Olympic and World Champions...and beyond".  Click here for the 2013 recipients.
Melges 20 World Champs - Ocean Reef, FL
Starts Today  - Add Ollie Luebker - Pine - to the list
LOADS of our ILYA sailors are basking in the sun while we Badgers and Gophers sit in subzero windchiills. From the entry list, Scowlines noted the lucky sunbathers - Pewaukee's Brian Henke sailing Affordable Mistress; Wayzata's Joel Ronnig in Catapult with Mark Christiansen; Kent Haeger's Mach Schnell with his all female crew featuring daughter Annie; Elizabeth Harned's Miss Betty will miss Liz but Rick Kotovic and will Graves will carry the banner; Paul Reilly's Red Sky with Andy Burdick and Joe Kutschenreuter; Shimmer's Russ Lucas with Harry Melges; Jeff Ecklund in Star; Sam Rogers crews on Oleander; Justin Hood on Kuai -  that's a lot of fun. Our apologies if we missed an Inland participant. Follow the event here.
Lake Forest City Council Recognize HS Sailing
    Lake Forest HS Sailing Day
After winning the Great Lakes Championship, Lake Forest HS sailing team was honored by City Hall for their accomplishments. Coach Hunter Ratliff trains his Lake Forest team from the Lake Forest Parks and Rec Department. The city wisely saw the benefit of investing in an improved waterfront beach and after several directors the high school sailing program has seen many of our Inland sailors win championships for the program. Malcolm Lamphere, a senior pictured second from the left here, will attend Yale next year. Congrats to Lake Forest.
The editor recently met a former Lake Forest city councilperson who now resides in a senior living complex, the Admiral, who proudly recounted the early days when the city took a chance on a small sailing program. She had a brief stay on Delavan in Flying Scots and later moved to big boats upon retirement. She was aware of her Lake Forest team's prowess and of our "fast scows". It seems our ILYA presence is known throughout the Midwest.
