Day 2   Inland 20 ILYA Champs, Neenah, Wisconsin

The second day of racing for the Inland20 ILYA Champs in Neenah, Wisconsin brought a new wind direction and new racing conditions.  Medium winds out of the south produced wavy and shifty conditions for the morning race.  John Hayashi (WA-5) got out to an early lead, and led at each mark rounding until he was finally ground down in a tacking duel by Aaron Lynn (J-11) on the last upwind leg to take the win.  After lunch the fleet headed out for more racing as the winds shifted to the southwest and grew.  Choppy conditions and puffy racing made for some exciting racing on Lake Winnebago.   More than one boat in the fleet took a little swim during the third race, but with plenty of support boats from the Neenah Nodaway Yacht Club everyone was taken care of.  Aaron Lynn (J-11) earned his third race win of the regatta after some close mark roundings with Stefan Schmidt (H-5).  Winds looked to be building for the third race of the day, but the weary sailors pressed on.  Those who were able to work through the waves made out the best in the final race.  This time it was Stefan Schmidt (H-5) who beat out Aaron Lynn (J-11) for the last bullet of the day.  One race remains in the series for the final day of racing on Sunday.  As the I-20 class allows one throw out after six completed races, the regatta win and many places are still up for grabs!

USODA New England Championships
Over August 5-7th, 362 sailors took to the water of Naraganset Bay for the 2010 USODA New England Championships; this year's largest USODA opti regatta!  PRO Ken Legler ran an amazing regatta, with an impressive four-boat race committee starting line, that resulted in NO general recalls for the 11-race (4 flights per race), and shifty winds ranged from 15-25 knots each day.  ILYA sailor Augie Dale racked up three race wins and 8th place overall.  Full results can be found at

Please come and see what the USODA is all about when Pewaukee Yacht Club, along with the Pewaukee Lake Sailing School,  hosts the 2010 Midwest Opti Championships September 11th and 12th.  The PLSS will also be coordinating a racing clinic led by US National Team Coach, Pepe Bettini that will take place on the 9th and 10th (information to follow soon.)  Registration is now available at
