Olaf and Peter Harken to Enter Sailing Hall of Fame

Harken proudly shares the announcement that founders, Peter and Olaf Harken, have been inducted into the National Sailing Hall of Fame (NSHOF). Today, the NSHOF announced that Peter and Olaf will join Henry H. Anderson Jr., Nathaniel Bowditch, Carl Eichenlaub, L. Francis Herreshoff, George O'Day, and John B. Kilroy as the 2014 class of inductees.

The NSHOF recognizes sailors who have made outstanding contributions to the sport of sailing in order to preserve its history and impact on American culture, while inspiring the next generation of sailors.
WYA C Regatta
One race Fri and Sat but Loads of Fun
You cannot diminish the fun of the C fleet. Light air tried to douse the fleet's enthusiasm but these photos by Larry Kmiecik show the fleet's endurance to the task. And, by the way, there was sailing - one light, light air race in 5mph of less on Fri but Sunday brought medium to light air for a three race event won again by Stephan Schmidt for his seventh win. We are getting ready for the grand party. Announcements regarding scheduling will be on the official notification board at the official site, The Waters. We will be posting unofficially at a board at Millers Bay. In addition, we will unoficially text and/or email the skipper of each boat. You provided your email and phone (make sure it was cell if you want a text message) with your online registration. Watch for notification of social or sailing schedules while in Oshkosh.  (We did not gather emails of crew with registration since Regatta Network requires mandatory fields which would have encumbered the registration procedure for you.)

Our Sailors around the Nation and World

Malcolm Lamphere and Erik Bowers attended the Laser US National Championships. Erik placed 2nd and Malcolm 7th.

The Olympic hopefuls are in Rio at the first test event. Annie Haeger is sitting in first place after the first day.  Stephanie Hudson in the Nacra 17 had a tough first day. Results here. Follow results here.  It sounds like the fleets will rotate through the possible courses. Haeger sailed "outside" today.

Steph Roble had a marvelous day today in Sweden. She is undefeated in the first round robin group in the Women's International Matchracing event.

Pewaukee Announces E Blue Chip Guest
PEWAUKEE YACHT CLUB'S 2014 E SCOW BLUE CHIP TO BE PART OF THE BART'S BASH IN PURSUIT OF WORLD RECORD
America's Cup Skipper of Oracle Team USA, Jimmy Spithill, to compete at PYC this fall.
Pewaukee, WI, August 5, 2014 - The 2014 E Blue Chip Regatta hosted by the PYC will be joining the inaugural celebration of Bart's Bash, a worldwide sailing and charity event honoring the late Andrew 'Bart' Simpson, the Swedish Artemis Racing crew member who lost his life May 9, 2013 during training for the 2013 Americas Cup. In addition to joining the inaugural Bart's Bash, PYC's 2014 E Blue Chip will include several world-class competitors, including Jimmy Spithill, the skipper of Oracle Team USA.
"The E Blue Chip is a national sailing event like none other, and this year we celebrate our prestigious 49th year. We can't imagine a better way to gear up for next year's big 50th anniversary celebration than participating in the largest sailing race ever held and doing our part to honor Bart," said Decker, Commodore of the Pewaukee Yacht Club.
On September 21, 2014 an anticipated 30,000 - 40,000 sailors, including the world-class participants of the 2014 PYC E Blue Chip Regatta, will join the Bart's Bash fundraising event with the goal of setting a Guinness World Record as the largest sailing race held in a 24 hour period in multiple locations. Bart's Bash is held in honor of Andrew 'Bart' Simpson, the highly accomplished sailor who was killed in the capsize of the catamaran he was crewing on May 9, 2013 while training for the America's Cup in San Francisco Bay. Jimmy Spithill, Sir Ben Ainslie CBE and Iain Percy MBE were the first three competitors to sign up for the event, with Spithill participating vis a vis the E Blue Chip as our 49th Mystery Guest.
The 2014 PYC E Blue Chip is the precursor to 2015's regatta which will mark the 50th anniversary of the competition. Plans are well on their way for the commemoration with the goal of hosting a premier sailing event that celebrates the rich traditions of the E Scow, its Blue Chip and sailors by reuniting world-class skippers and ambassadors from the first
50 years of Blue Chip history.
