A One Design Fleet Graces Waters of Mendota

Morning of AOD
The morning began with overcast skies and light rain for Day One of the A One Design regatta. That's the Capitol dome in the background as the upwind mark was set near the University and downtown area. The twenty-nine boats racing boasted a starting list of 31 but two boats cancelled in the AM of race day. A strong fleet with a marvelous day.
Porter in race one
Race One belonged to I-49 Full Throttle with John Porter at the helm. Looks like five Porters on the winning team.
I-96 race 2
Race two was led start to finish by Chuck Lamphere with Hans Melges, Paul Nelson, David Porter, Miles Clark and Matt Prange on board.
Wyman in race 2
Photo of the day and race of the day are displayed above. Red chute belongs to Legacy, J-5 Bill Wyman and his Oshkosh crew. But. . .
Buddy at Mendota
atop the leader board is the Wizard of Zenda. John Anderson with Buddy Melges at the helm sits in first with a 2-2. Some things never change.
Money at A

This says a lot! The fleet looks magnificent on the lovely water of Mendota. Chair Brian Anderson has arranged a fantastic event at Governor Nelson Park. The sailboats and tenders are in and out each day in under an hour. Tonight's party is a return to the memorable Edgewater.

Results show 6 Geneva boats and four Minnetonka teams in the top ten.
