Big Wind Results in broken masts, E tipovers and cancellation of MC and A

First fleet, Melges 17s,  meets fierce winds and many tipovers
Morning with big wind! Thee day built to a crescendo resulting in NO RACES in the afternoon. The E's managed one race but inability to anchor the RC boats in the big breeze caused no second race. One big crash and multiple tipovers - including one coming in at the pier - resulted in a memorable day. But Augie Barkow took race one.

Loction, location, location - The C fleet concluded two races. Sailing near Fontana, the C's had the advantage of heavy (not howling) wind. Still five masts broken and a diminishing fleet with every additional 10 minutes sailed, it was quite a day. It seems the sailors were NOT disappointed with the afternoon opportunity to enjoy the new Buddy Melges Sailing Center.

Race One Winners - N181 Peter and Dan Keck

Race committee lost all decorum when A 77 DRAINO crossed the finish line. Seems the old guy still has it. The smile on wife Eileen's face said it all. Peter Kerr never looked better.

Shot of the day (taken by flagship driver Conner while the rest of the boat worked the finish) -
an amazing finish by B-22 Glenn McMurray nearly 10 feet from the finish and a tipover.

Today's schedule
9:00 the morning fleets go out early. MCs first followed by As.
2:00 E's and C's (15 minute stagger at the piers) for two races.
