E's and MC's Begin Racing on Thursday

For on the water reporting (as available), go to our Facebook page.

For results, go to the Okoboji Yacht Club website.

Thirty E scows take to the big water on Okoboji. Forty-three MC's will sail on the southern end of the lake. Race committee met today to review the fleet's recommendations and the equipment and we're off. Larry Krause and Charlie MacNider serve as the E and MC PROs. OYC manager Brad Farrar had folks cutting the lawn, cleaning windows, polishing mirrors and glass. Measurer Dave Schmidt and his new sidekick, wife Karen, celebrated their 32nd wedding anniversary checking in boats. (Yes, some wives have all the luck!). Both fleets begin at 10:00 AM, weather permitting.

Look for mark rounding updates from two new reporters tomorrow. Leslie Barkow will tackle the task for the E fleet and Margaret Osmundson will post for the MC's. Both fleets will attempt three races on Thursday. Watch Facebook for the updates. By the conclusion of the A racing on day three, over 500 of you were checking the close finish. Close to 1000 of you are reading Scowlines each morning.

Sailors competing in this session are from as far away as Colorado and New Jersey. There are returning champions in both fleets so it will be strong competition.

Geneva's Malcolm Lamphere held on to second on day 2. He won the last two races of the day and sits 5 points out of first. Crew names are now added to the roster so the 420 fans can see all our sailors.
