Storms Plague Regatta - Two Races Today
E;s at Geneva
The E's took to the water first in what looked like a great day only to be disrupted twice by impending storms. Lulls with near shutdown of the breeze resulted in a wide spread of boats but Sam Rogers was unstoppable today in any breeze with a 2-1. Young Derek Packard showed consistency to make it a 1-2 punch for Minnetonka. Only Augie Barkow sneaking in at third breaks up a Mnnetonka sweep of first through sixth. Quite an impressive fleet.

The evening awards  gave Kaenon sunglasses, Melges hats, Harken gear and a bottle of Champagne. Pictured with the Race One Winner Evans team of John Porter, Rob Evans and Geoff Evans is one of the volunteers everywhere at this well-run event.
On the MC side, two races were also completed and at day's end Craig Thompson, shown below, leads the large fleet.
And if there is no surprise, here is Andy Burdick, winner of Race 2 but in this first race photo, daughter Mya accompanies her most accomplished father. Ever heard of the daughter having the father wrapped. . . . . ? Burdick reports his daughter's request to go head to win to go swimming during the race was not heeded. This is a change from the most competitive Burdick. Don't look for this level of laxity during the A fleet champs.

Click here for the ILYA preview on Sailgroove. Stay tuned for the Melges Morning Show. It will be posted at the earliest opportunity once the wind condition and sailing schedule is determined for the day. Thanks to the cooperative effort of the RC, windward mark roundings were posted on and Facebook.
And now for the fun
Each afternoon Geneva brings out the Gator, a four wheeler provided by Lynch. The Geneva hospitality committee provides free beer and today's team is none other than three sisters. You may all recognize Candace Burdick and here are her two sisters. Missing is sister Suzanne Melges. Can you imagine the sailors from this gene pool in a few years? The first day's Gator team was Bull Schmidt and Kelly Hirn. Day two was Julie Navin and Michelene Melges. Who's next? We may have to assign Executive Secretary Smith to the task to get him to slow down.
Each night live entertainment is provided thanks to sponsorship obtained by Geneva's Commodore Mike Keefe. Geneva shows the dedication of its efforts with a sea of redshirted volunteers and visual thanks to its sponsors. Be sure and thank the sponsors when you are there. Line Honors is onsite with sales of apparel and saiing gear.
