Home Club - Lake Geneva  Scows Sailed in 2013 - A and E

Questions for Skippers:

What is your sailing background? (Yacht Club, age started, boats sailed, etc)

I started sailing school at the Lake Geneva Yacht Club when I was about 6 or 7. I began in Optis and worked my way up to X-boats. I was also taken to E and A regattas with my Dad and Uncle from an early age. I remember being at a regatta in Texas, and they really didn't have anyone to keep me with if I stayed onshore, so they'd take me with and I would sleep under the deck for an entire A boat race. Eventually I was able to crew on A's, E's, and C's and I loved it.

During my last years in X boats, I started getting into the Laser and travelling to some youth regattas. I became friends with some of the better sailors, trained with them, and really enjoyed how competitive that fleet was. After sailing a bit in high school I went on to sail at Harvard for four years, sailing FJs, 420s, and Lasers. After college I started driving an E-Scow, and also trimmed main on a Melges 32 for a few seasons.

What is your proudest sailing accomplishment?  Probably winning College Singlehanded Nationals in the Laser.

What is your pre-regatta ritual?  Eating my Mom's good luck coffee cake. And a cold shower in the morning.

Who is your biggest competition? Why?  Getting Clifford out of bed is always a difficult task. Other than that, the E Scow fleet is as competitive as I've seen. My Uncle Brian has been pretty fast all year, with a good young crew that's always getting better. And the I-1 is registered. You just can't bet against the Wizard of Zenda.

If you could add any person as your heavy air crew, who would it be?

Rafael Nadal. Yelling "hike" in Spanish would be fun.

Favorite pre-and post-regatta food or drink.

Pre-regatta: If there's no coffee cake, then a bacon, ham and cheese omelet at Daddy Maxwells at Lake Geneva. Post regatta: Root beer float and cheeseburger.

Questions for Crew (Coye Harrett, Clifford Porter):

What is one thing we don't know about your skipper?

He used to put on a wig, dress in drag, and sing "I'm Too Sexy" by Right Said Fred when he was little

What phrase do you hear most from the back of your boat?

Let's tack on Pete (or Brian)

Why will your team win this year's XXX Inland?

Because we're the fastest boat

If you win, what magazine cover would you like to be featured on?

Rolling Stone

Lastly, if your boat had a theme song, what would it be?

Put You on the Game

Home club  Minnetonka                                                     Scows sailed in 2013: E (Formerly M-101 now M-43)

Questions for Skippers:

What is your sailing background? (Yacht Club, age started, boats sailed, etc)

I was hungry one night in the college dorms and the sailing team was having a free pizza party.  I went for the food, but ended up joining the team.  I started sailing at the University of St. Thomas in St. Paul, MN.  After sailing in 420's in college, I bought a Laser and currently sail in the twin cities Laser circuit.  I am now involved with MYC and WYC sailing E scows, A scows, Sonars, Lasers and J22s.

What is your pre-regatta ritual?

For the E scows, our pre-regatta ritual is to find a boat to sail since our boat was demolished in the storm on Minnetonka back in June.  Thanks Shawn and Nicolie Hendrickson for letting us borrow your boat for the inlands and nationals!

Who is your biggest competition? Why?

Any other boat on the lake who has not flipped over.  This is our first year as a team and we are having a blast. But seriously, all of the Minnetonka boats are very competitive during our weekly races.  They are helping us learn a ton this year.

If you could add any person as your heavy air crew, who would it be?

The guys really want a ripped Olympic gymnast such as Shawn Johnson or Gabby Douglas.

Favorite pre-and post-regatta food or drink.

Post-race regatta food - Late night sushi happy hour in Uptown and bootleggers.

Questions for Crew:

What is one thing we don't know about your skipper?

Super power: she can pee anywhere.

What phrase do you hear most from the back of your boat?

Okay so... What I really need right now is ____!

Why will your team win this year's XXX Inland?

Because we haven't lost a regatta party yet.

If you win, what magazine cover would you like to be featured on?

Knitting or Maxim.  But seriously, a Wheaties box.

Lastly, if your boat had a theme song, what would it be?
