if you need other arrangements. Classes are filled at 8 so we can schedule another session if the June 6-9 dates do not work for you. Deadline for registering your request for your instructors or your children is Feb 4th if we want to organize the class for announcement at the Winter Inland. Indicate if you want Level 1 or 2 and location - SE WI or Minnesota.
3 - Have an idea that works well for your youth program? Be sure to send your sailing school directors and, if possible, write it up for posting at the back table for others to share.
4 - Need an instructor or need a job? Here is your opportunity to network. Gordon McBride is looking for a 2-week instructor in Missouri in June. The job opportunity will be posted at Chenequa - BE THERE!
5 - Here is a taste of what's in store for you:
Mike Woldum and Rick Trester attended the National Sailing Symposium in FL representing the ILYA. This three-day event had over seventy educational sessions. Over half of the sessions were geared to Community Sailing Programs. They covered topics from environmental concerns to fundraising, teaching underprivileged children to setting up a National or Olympic campaign.
Mike and Rick will attempt to glean some of the best points brought out and have them available through Scowlines over the next few issues.
Emlie Barkow was a guest speaker who made an impression on the crowd. She put together a twelve-month timetable for organizing and getting ready to run a summer sailing school program. Her presentation starts with reviewing the past season, evaluating the equipment, hiring instructors, setting the schedule and everything that goes along with running a good program.
Emlie developed this program over the last few years at Newport Harbor Yacht Club and Pleon YC which is wholly youth-run where she has served as Junior Sailing Program Director. Emlie is a teacher by degree and grew up on Pine Lake, WI. To download her complete presentation:

Fleets - Promotion is Key
Saturday all day is your time to build your fleet, create the 2011 activities for the season and just plain brainstorm about the future of the boat and its future regattas. The Promotion committee meets at 9:00 Saturday morning so send your ideas or come yourself. Everything is on the table. Your fleet meeting will discuss promotional ideas also. Any items you need to forward to the Board for consideration will be addressed at Sunday's Board meeting where you are also welcome. It's a cart/horse sort of thing. Come at 9:00 to meet with all the fleet reps and come to your fleet meeting to create new possibilities.
Your Promotion Committee chair, Publication chair and Minnetonka chairs are already at work setting up Twitter, Facebook and Sailgroove's participation at the Big Inland. The excitement is building. Come to the Winter Inland to give us your ideas.
