Barkow, Howe and Capozzi Take Gold in Spain
Cold weather, the Queen of Spain and ACT 13 with Alinghi for Easter -- all this in one week. The Team 7 continues on its quest to the '08 Olympics. Barkow led the final standings over a rich 33 boat fleet with international competition at its finest. The series was tough until Day 3 when Barkow took over the lead. The final medal race was a strategic lesson chronicled in many sailing websites.
The regatta brought a new set of conditions unfamiliar to many of the seasoned sailors. Barkow left her drysuit home for repair but layered, layered and wore foul weather gear which worked well for her. Her "wetter" crew fortunately had drysuits along. The win culminated in the trophy presentation with Queen Sofia awarding the winners. Then for the Easter weekend Barkow had the opportunity to spend the day with Ed Baird and Alinghi in the opening day of the final countdown to the 32nd America's Cup which begins in earnest June 23rd. The MC, C & E Fleet have approved this approach as an experiment during the Invitational regattas for 2007. Come and learn how it is done from the RC prospective. This is applicable to local club racing. All are welcome!
