BIG WEEKEND FOR ILYA REGATTAS |
|
Three ILYA regattas are on tap this weekend so take your boat and enjoy your friends. Optis gather on Monday at Beulah.
ILYA A Open Invitational
Fletcher Driscoll continues to be a draw.
Six homelake White Bear boats will be joined by boats from Fond du
Lac, Calhoun, Clear and Minnetonka. Pat Dunsworth will be on hand
taking photos. PRO Tom Hodgson will set the courses on a welcoming
White Bear.
ILYA C Invitational
Thirty-seven boats will grace Okauchee.
Youth sail at a discount thanks to the National C class. Eleven
Invitational pre-registrants are youth. Congrats, C fleet, on a great
job of promotion. A clinic was held tonight with Augie Barkow giving
tuning tips and loads of Okauchee sailors talking local lore. Sailors
are stationed and housed at homes. A complimentary hors d'ourvres party
is Saturday night. A pizza party on Friday night. Charles and Laverne
Schneider paid a visit during registration.
Melges 17 Championships
Thirteen boats are pre-registered but more are expected as
Pewaukee repeats as host for the Champs. Names of young and old alike
comprise the list. MC sailor Peter Tourmanoff and young sailors Matt
Ripkey, Adam El Khazindar, Derek Packard and Ben Biwer are ready for
the local RC team. Tammy Sawyer and the famous Dex host the fleet for a
second year.
ILYA No Tears East
Young Optimist sailors will gather on Lake
Beulah for fleets divided by age. The juniors and seniors sail for top
ten finishes but it's the friendships forged at an early age which
really is the benefit of this first regatta. Who is eligible? If you
have sailed in an ILYA RWB event, won the No Tears in prior years, know
all the rules and sense a need to strictly enforce them, this is not
the regatta for you. If your sailor is not placing in the top five of
green fleet competition, lacks confidence, attended sailing school for
the first or second year, this might be the event for you. Ask your
sailing school instructor for assistance in making this decision. Lake
Beulah is a small, hospitable lake which will make a perfect site for
your first regatta.
Pre-registration is not required for any of the events. Come and see our Inland lakes at their best. |
| X CHAMPS INFO |
| |
X fleet Chair John Murphy has issued the following information:
Dear X competitor/boat owner:
Overnight dry sailing WILL be
allowed at the X ILYA Champs in Oshkosh. Competitors are still
required to bring and have a wet mooring available for lunchs and other
possible delays
The ILYA measurer will be present at Oshkosh to assist with
measurement or other equipment issues. Each year the ILYA tries to
assist with one measurement area. The rear traveler, weight, and this
year, flotation have been addressed. All rear travelers are in
compliance. The scale will be there again for those of you desiring to
be weighed. If you have a weight sticker, you do NOT have to be
weighed. This year's focus of measurement is flotation. The inspection
is for safety only.
The rule regarding floatation (87.5) states that boats year:
· '88-93 have 6 cubic feet
· '94-'06 have 10 cubic feet
· '07 or newer have 6x5gallon cubitainers
This
biggest problem is usually the wearing out of the bungee cords that
hold the foam in place and wearing of the bungee cord into the foam.
Please look under the deck and make sure the flotation is there and it
is firmly secure. You can save yourself alot of registration day
stress by doing this before you arrive in Oskosh. I have asked the
boat builder to have materials on site for repairs, but the boat owner
will be charged accordingly.

| NEWS FROM US SAILING |
|
One-Design Sailors' Voice in US SAILING
If
you are an active racer and you care about the future of our sport, you
should be registered as a Sailor Athlete. As a registered Sailor
Athlete, you will get a voice in the Sailor Athlete Council (SAC), the
only vehicle for an individual or group of individuals to be heard as
individuals, not as members of an organization. Much of the
representation at US SAILING is organized around a class, a regional
sailing association, or a racing discipline (such as team racing).
SAC's responsibility is to represent the individual athlete. As a
registered athlete (level A or B), you will be eligible to be nominated
for a position on the Sailor Athlete Council (nominations open in
August). For more information on how and why to become a registered
Sailor Athlete, as well as on the Sailor Athlete Council, visit www.ussailing.org/sac.
2008 Championship of Champions Regatta
Application Deadline - August 14
Apply
now if you have won a National, North American or World Championship
since August, 2007. Twenty competitors will be selected. The 2008
Championship of Champions will be sailed in Sunfish on September 24-27
at Sayville Yacht Club, NY. Apply online: http://www.ussailing.org/championships/adult/CofC/
