TED KELLER WINS MC INVITE |
|
Nagawicka
Yacht Club threw a party like no other. All ten award winners stopped
to thank the club for a great show. Have you ever heard ALL the winners
give accolades to the organizing host? From the food, hospitality, race
committee work(PRO Russ Ackley and crew) and good, strong winds the MC
Invitational is in the books. Ted Keller (above) took home top prize
with an impressive 1-1-9-2-2. Dan Fink, first time Nag sailor, sailed
to a strong second. ILYA MC rep, Noel Neumann, was third; Mark Wilfert
in fourth; Eric Oppen in fifth. Top Grand Master was Pine's Tim
Fredman, top master Pewaukee's Peter Toumanoff, top woman Deb Gluek,
top junior Chris Acker.
Regatta
Chair Craig Heinze fabricated all the trophies and what magnificent
pieces of art! Quantum provided the mock-up sails which were encased in
glass with the Nag sticker. They are stunning and demonstrate the
effort Nagawicka expended on this event. Race 1 winner trophy was
fitting -- a Stamm block encased in a shadow box. The old timers will
recall Stamm boat works located on Nagawicka. Deb Zeigler displays her
award.
Thanks
to the entire Nagawicka YC for an exceptional event. There wasn't a
face absent. Five women showed up to SAIL! This is a local club with
all the right stuff. For results, check the ILYA website today. Thanks again, Nagawicka for all your efforts. |
| BURDICK TAKES IT ALL AT E INVITATIONAL |
| |
Hard to beat a 1-1-1-1-2! Andy Burdick with Peter Keck, Coye Harrett and Michael Lee (pictured to the left in a Larry Kmiecik photo)
schooled the rest of the competition at the ILYA E Invitational. Only
Jule Hannaford beat Andy for a race. Delavan with PRO Terry Bischoff
held five of the heaviest, calamity-filled races in any one's memory.
The
asymmetrical E's raced around the lake and loved the onshore parties in
a successful, marvelous event. Delavan showcased its
year-old remodeling project and more than one sailor stood in the entry
to enjoy the wooden C boat perched on a high ledge. There is history,
artwork and new graphics for this event which decorated the yacht club
in an exciting manner. Regatta chair Mark Hetzler welcomed each sailor
with a complimentary cocktail party on Thursday and the fun continued
through Saturday night with local musicians Robert and Michael Mahoney
assisting with dancing the night away.
The results are
in! Geneva looked tough but had to share the top five with two strong
Minnetonka boats. Vincent Porter returns to the area with a
second-place debut back into Midwest sailing. Jule Hannaford was 3rd,
Bill
Allen
fourth and Ken Wruk in fifth. Delavan had to be proud of its
hometeam led by Tim O'Keefe. Buddy Melges returned to his roots sailing
D1883 under the hometown emblem.
Photos
by Pat Dunsworth (above) and Larry Kmiecik show exciting mark
roundings, a bit of swimming but great racing throughout the event.
